James Leonard Martin, 71 Jacksonvil­le, Fla.

James Leonard Martin, of Jacksonvil­le, Fla., and Smyrna, Ga., passed away Friday, June 17, 2016. He was 71.

He was born Jan. 11, 1945, in Chattanoog­a, Tenn., to the late Eugene and Martha Martin. Mr. Martin was retired and the former owner of Alignment Brake and Spring.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and was a member of Village Church Vinings.

Survivors include: His wife, Elaine; son, Jay (Diane) Martin of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter, Jana Martin (Jonathan) Adams of Marietta; grandchild­ren, Conor, Noah, Lily, Caroline and Caleb; brother, Larry (Danette) Martin of Lafayette and sister, Linda Norris of Inverness, Fla.

Memorial service: Monday, June 20, at 11 a.m. at Stonebridg­e Church, 176 Roswell Street, in Marietta, Ga., with Rev. Jonathan Adams officiatin­g.

Mary Ruth Lunsford, 87 Ringgold

Mary Ruth (Vess) Lunsford, of Ringgold, Ga., went home to be with the Lord Saturday, June 18, 2016. She was 87.

She was a lifelong resident of Ringgold and a member of Indian Springs Church of God.

She worked at Cutter Lab for 25 years before moving on and retiring from Shaw Industries.

Mary will be greatly missed by all who love her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Olen and Pearl (Templeton) Vess; sisters, Edna Murray, Ola Bates and Ruby Dedmon; children, Jerry Lunsford, Louise Lunsford and Donnie Lunsford and great-grandchild, Peyton Rowe.

Survivors include: Her daughter-in-laws, Diane Lunsford of Crandall, Ga., and Charlotte Lunsford of Rossville, Ga.; sisters, Peggy (Robert) Lunsford of Ringgold, Ga., and Dorothy Petty of Ooltewah, Tenn.; grandchild­ren, Bart (Margaret) Lunsford, Amy (Danny) Headrick, Jessica (Charles) Lecker, Quinton Lunsford, Chris (Christine) Lunsford, Seth (Kim) Lunsford and Mary (Tyson) Bomar; 18 great-grandchild­ren and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Thomas Franklin Woods, of Rossville, Ga., passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016, at his residence. He was 26.

He was a lifelong resident of the Rossville area and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include: His parents, Frank and Deborah Trundle Woods of Rossville; fiancé, Alexandria Lacy Lyle of Ringgold, Ga.; two sisters, Amy (Henry) Shrader of Rossville and Jennifer (Ray Sheffey) Bullard of Rossville; two brothers, Robert Lyle (Lorraine) Baggett of Groveland, Fla., and Michael (Paula) Woods of Chattanoog­a, Tenn., and nieces and nephews.

Mary Elizabeth Davis, 92 Flintstone, Ga.

Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Buffington Davis, of Flintstone, Ga., passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016, in a local health care facility. She was 92.

Mrs. Davis was born and raised on Sand Mountain before moving to the Chattanoog­a area following her marriage to Billy P. Davis in 1949.

She was employed with Marmode Hosiery Mill until the early 1980s and was a member of Chattanoog­a Valley Baptist Church.

Libby was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Winnie Mae Buffington; husband, Billy P. Davis; brothers, William, Herbert, Milford, Clifford and Edward Buffington and sister, Edwina Ireland.

Survivors include: Her children, Gregory P. Davis (Miguel Silva) and Kimberly S. Davis (Shearon Gass); brothers, Ben (Judy) Buffington, Clyde (Shelby) Buffington and Kermit (Dorothy) Buffington; sister, Jacqueline Byers; brother-in-law, Alvin Davis and numerous nieces and nephews.

Michael “Phil” Walker, of Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga., passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016. He was 65.

He was preceded in death by a son, Caleb Walker and his parents, Dewey and Jean Walker.

Roderick Lanier Lomenick, Flintstone, Ga.

Roderick Lanier Lomenick, “Mr. Jack,” answered the final call of his Lord and Savior Friday, June 16, 2016, and went to be with his Heavenly Father.

A humble Christian man, church and community leader, Mr. Jack spent his life seeking God’s will. Those who knew Mr. Jack can take comfort in imagining him when he heard the words he’d lived his life to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Survivors include: His wife and the love of his life, Marion Hill Lomenick; his devoted sister, Peggy Mattox; his long-time trusted friend, Al Horsley; his beloved pastor, Jeff Brown; his three “chosen” sons, Kelly (Renee) Hill, Kerry Hill and Kenan (Betsy) Hill; six grandchild­ren, Abby (Nathan) Nerswick, Gabrielle (Dray) Holmes, Aaron Wilson, Noah, Annabel and John Hill; several treasured nieces and nephews and other extended family members.

“Well, I looked way over Jordan, I saw people dressed in white; Now, I know they was God’s children, Lord, ‘cause I see ‘em doin’ right.”

Brother Jack is now dressed all in white. Amen.

Jerry I. McGee, 80, Lakeland, Fla.

Jerry I. McGee of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Walker County, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016. He was 80.

He was born Dec. 29, 1935, in North Carolina to parents S. L. and Gladys McGee. Jerry moved to Lakeland in 1990 with Betty Sue, his wife of 59 years.

Jerry was a teacher with the Walker County school system for 33 years, serving as sponsor for many clubs and high school events along with his teaching duties. He also served on state level committees for curriculum developmen­t and was a state finalist for Georgia Teacher of the Year in 1986. The majority of his career was teaching high school, with a focus on and passion for social studies and government classes.

In 1974, Jerry was ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church in LaFayette, Ga. Upon coming to Lakeland, he served First Baptist Church at the Mall as a member of the Global Reach Board, as a senior adult Sunday School director for 16 years, several executive committees and as a deacon for 20 years.

During his tenure as a deacon, he is credited with starting the Widow and Widower Ministry and for several years was the second vice chairman.

Jerry has also served on the South Florida Baptist Associatio­n Missions committee and as chairman of the stewardshi­p committee. In 2010, he was awarded deacon emeritus at First Baptist Church at the Mall.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Alonzo and Walter McGhee and sisters, Inez Moser and Rosa Lee Stamey.

Survivors include: His wife, Betty Sue; daughter, LaWanda Sue (Harold) Maready; granddaugh­ter, Erin Ashley Maready; sister, Elaine McCulloh and brother, Eugene McGhee.

He was laid to rest Monday, June 20, in Lakeland Memorial Gardens, 2125 S. Bartow Rd., Lakeland, Fla. 33801.

James Dale Cureton, 65 Chattanoog­a, Tenn.

James Dale Cureton, of Chattanoog­a, Tenn., went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, June 18, 2016. He was 65.

He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanoog­a area and was a member of Church of the Nativity in Fort Oglethorpe.

He was an Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War as an air traffic controller and retired from Norfolk Southern in 2010 after more 32 years of service as a switchman.

He was very active with his church family, helping with the food pantry and feeding those in need and was also a member of the United Transporta­tion Union Local #338.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfathe­r and great-grandfathe­r who will be truly missed by all that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Thomas Cureton; mother Helen Elizabeth (Howard) Wilbanks and brother, Thomas Ralph Cureton.

Survivors include: His loving wife of more than 47 years, Myra Bowman Cureton of Chattanoog­a; daughters Minerva (Troy) Lofty of Chattanoog­a and Kelly (J.D.) Halfacre of Chickamaug­a, Ga.; five grandchild­ren, Molley, Wade, Charlie, Henry and Helen; two greatgrand­children, Judy and Eileen and numerous extended family and friends.

She lived most of her life in Olney, Ill., and was a member of

Calvary Baptist Church in Olney. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r that will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Charles Harold Ellis Sr., of Rossville, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016, in a local healthcare facility. He was 90.

A native and lifelong resident of Rossville, Mr. Ellis was a member of Elizabeth Terrace Baptist Church and the auditorium Sunday School class and he retired as a supervisor with Wheland Foundry with more than 40 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Joyce Fielding Ellis; his parents, Herman and Flossie Ellis and brother, Leon Ellis.

Survivors include: His sons, Charles H. Lamar Underwood, of Rossville, Ga., passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016, in a local hospital. He was 66.

He was retired from ARAMARK with over 30 years of service and was of the Christian faith. He was very creative with writing, poetry and woodworkin­g.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Christophe­r Underwood and Doug Underwood and his father, Talmadge Underwood.

Marie Imogene Blackmon, 82 Chickamaug­a

Marie Imogene Jenkins Blackmon, of Chickamaug­a, Ga., passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at her residence. She was 82.

A native of Delano, Tenn., she lived in the Chickamaug­a area for the past 60 years and was formerly of Chattanoog­a, Tenn.

She was a former employee of Hutcheson Medical Center where she worked for 11 years and was a member of the Chickamaug­a Presbyteri­an Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Eugene Blackmon; parents, Ernest Henry and Maggie Sisson Jenkins; granddaugh­ter, Lori Marie Blackmon and two brothers, Jerry Jenkins and Marvin L. Jenkins.

Survivors include: Her three children, Alvin Ray (Marlene) Blackmon of Chickamaug­a; Pam (Leland) Johnson of Chickamaug­a and Larry (Lisa) Blackmon of Chickamaug­a; three sisters, Joyce Smith of Tunnel Hill, Ga., Balma Blackmon of Trion, Ga., and Caroldean Jenkins of Ringgold, Ga.; six grandchild­ren, 14 greatgrand­children, three great-great-grandchild­ren and nieces and nephews.

Quilla W. Pratt, 95 LaFayette

Quilla W. Pratt passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016. She was 95.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Sarah Frances Wheeler; her brother, Leon Wheeler and his wife, Margaret Little Wheeler.

Survivors include: Her husband, Stanton E. Pratt; her daughter, Linda (David) Derrick; two grandchild­ren, Chas (Kathy) Peppers and Ben (Lana) Peppers; two great-grandchild­ren, Samuel and Lily and several loving members of her husband’s family in Turner, Maine.

Born in Greely, Colo., she moved with her parents to the north Georgia area where she lived most of her life. She was a graduate of Gordon Lee High School and became a licensed beautician and worked in Rossville, Ga.

During World War ll she worked installing electrical equipment in warplanes and then in Oak Ridge at the atomic bomb center. In 1943, she married her loving husband of 73 years and moved with him to Auburn, Maine, for several years before they returned to LaFayette, Ga., where she worked as a dental assistant until her retirement.

Mrs. Pratt will be remembered by her family and friends as a creative artist and craftsman. She enjoyed and expressed her talents through many mediums. It gave her great pleasure to give her creations to those whom she loved, and she leaves a beautiful legacy of her works with them.

Quilla was a devoted Christian and faithful member of First Baptist Church in LaFayette for 65 years. For many years she enjoyed using her God-given creative talents to arrange the flowers for Sunday services each week. She influenced many young girls’ lives through her work in the church G.A. organizati­on and Sunday School classes.

Visitation: Sunday, June 26, from 2-4 p.m. at First Baptist Church sanctuary in LaFayette.

Funeral service: Sunday, June 26, at 4 p.m.

Burial: LaFayette City Cemetery.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmothe­r, greatgrand­mother and greatgreat-grandmothe­r who will truly be missed by all who knew her.
