LaFayette 10's bring home Dizzy Dean district crown

- By Scott Herpst

Fresh off of the LaFayette 11-year-old All-Stars’ Dizzy Dean District 1 championship earlier this month, the Queen City’s 10-year-old stars added another district baseball trophy to the trophy case last Monday night.

LaFayette handled Whitfield County (Rawlings) in the championship game at the Summerville recreation fields, completing a 4-0 run through the bracket.

The Orange-andBlack defeated Gordon County in their opener this past Friday and followed up with a win over the North Georgia Rampage a day later.

On Sunday, in the winners’ bracket final, LaFayette took down Murray County to earn a spot in the finals where Whitfield would eventually meet them after beating Murray County in the elimination bracket final earlier on Monday.

LaFayette will now head to the North Georgia State sanctioned tournament, which starts July 1 at Hobgood.

Three more Dizzy Dean District 1 championships were also decided earlier this week.

The LFO Outlaws beat the LFO Braves in the 6-year-old final in Boynton, while the LFO Braves won the 8-yearold title in Rossville, taking down Trion in Monday’s championship game.

In Trenton, the Trion 12-year-old All-Stars won the title beating the hosts in a final that needed an “if game” to decide a winner.

Trion, who beat Dade County in the winners’ bracket final, lost to Dade in the first championship game after the Wolverines battled their way back through the elimination bracket.
