COMMUNITY · Catoosa County parks and recreation department is presenting its first season of a summer concert series called Park Rhythms. All concerts are free and will be held each Thursday, at 7 p.m. at the Northwest Georgia Amphitheatre,

While food vendors will be on site to provide lots of favorites, event coordinators welcome tourists and community members to bring along their own picnic dinner and blankets to enjoy during the show. COMMUNITY · Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to attend a special program at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center Saturday, July 9, exploring the roles of civilians, quartermasters and other support staff in preparing the armies to fight at Chickamauga. Visitors will have opportunities to informally interact with living historians, while formal, 45-minute programs will be at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. From September, 18-20, 1863, thousands of soldiers fought in the fields and forests along the banks of West Chickamauga Creek. Behind and alongside those soldiers were thousands of wagon drivers, teamsters, clerks, quartermasters and civilians working to ensure soldiers had the food, clothing and supplies they needed to fight. Join us for this special program where visitors can “meet” some of these unsung heroes who served “in the rear, with the gear.”

CAMP · Chickamauga Park invites children in grades 4-8 to participate in the park’s sixth annual summer day camps, A Call to Arms: Civil War Day Camp. The first camp, Tuesday-Thursday, July 12-14, will be for grades 4-6 and the second camp, Tuesday-Thursday, July 19-21, will be for grades 7-8. Camps begin at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. daily. Participants will begin and end each day at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center. Lunch is not included. Campers will participate in many of the same activities soldiers engaged in during the Civil War and learn about the struggles they endured. Campers will also learn the importance of battlefield preservation by participating in preservation efforts within the park. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
