James Charles “J.C.” Bryant Jr., of LaFayette, Ga., passed away Monday, Aug. 1, 2016, at Wood Dale Nursing Home in Dalton, Ga. He was 87.

He was born July 24, 1929, in LaFayette, to the late James Charles Bryant Sr. and Mary Elizabeth “Lizzie” Fielding.

J.C. was a loving father and grandfathe­r who will be greatly missed by family and friends.

He was a former Merchant Marine and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was a residentia­l contractor and homebuilde­r. He was a registered artist of Walker County, an avid wood

carver and flea market aficionado.

J.C. owned The Wooden Indian Restaurant, and was well known for his homemade Brunswick Stew.

He was an active member of Corinth Baptist Church in LaFayette.

J.C. was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Martha Perkins Bryant; his brother, Donald Bryant; sister, Moena Bryant Thomas and stepson, Hank Garner.

Survivors include: His loving wife, Mary Neblett Garner Bryant; daughter, Joye (Al) Duke of Lookout Mtn., Tenn.; son, Boyd (Cindy) Bryant of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; daughter, Anita (Jarrod) Roussel of Huntsville, Ala.; five stepchildr­en, an extended family of 24 grand and step grandchild­ren and 27 greatgrand and step greatgrand­children.

Visitation: Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home and Thursday, Aug. 4, from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Funeral service: Thursday, Aug. 4, at 11:30 a.m. in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Pastor R.D. Wallin officiatin­g.
