Ridgeland goes 2-0 in Dalton

- By Scott Herpst

Rain played havoc with the Dalton Lady Cat Invitational softball tournament this past weekend at Heritage Point Park.

As a result, play was washed out on Friday and Ridgeland was only able to get in two games on Saturday.

However, it was a successful Saturday for the Lady Panthers as they moved to 4-1 overall with a pair of wins.

Ridgeland 1, Sonoraville 0

Kiera Foster scored on an RBI by Cortney Mooneyham to account for the only run of the six-inning affair on Saturday morning.

Foster, her sister Ciera Foster and Morgan Crawford had the only hits for the Lady Panthers, all singles.

Crawford gave up four hits and six walks, but got the completegame shutout as she struck out six and stranded 10 Sonoraville runners.

Ridgeland 7, Chattahoochee 1

Kiera Foster scored twice, drove in two runs and had two hits, including a home run, in the victory over their Class 6A opponents.

Haley Sandridge had a pair of doubles and knocked in a run. Monneyham doubled as one of her two hits. Crawford singled and drove in two. Katie Davis and Allison Wallin each had singles, while Cameron Massey was credited with an RBI.

Wallin also got the win in the five-inning game. She went the distance, allowing one earned run on seven hits and a walk. She finished with seven strikeouts.

Ridgeland 5, Pickens 0

Wallin had another complete-game, this one a four-hitter, in a region win over Pickens this past Tuesday.

Sandridge and Crawford each belted home runs as the Lady Panthers won their second

region game of the season.

Wallin struck out six and walked just two in the victory as Ridgeland moved to 2-1 in Region 6-4A. Crawford’s homer was a two-run variety, while Sandridge’s was a solo blast. Five other Lady Panthers each singled in the win.

Ridgeland was scheduled to travel to LaFayette on Monday to resume region play with a makeup of a game that was rained out last Thursday. Results were unavailable as of press time. The Lady Panthers will travel to Southeast on Thursday before heading to Allatoona to play in the Buc Bash over the weekend.
