Gordon Lee sweeps LaFayette, Sonoravill­e

The Lady Trojans welcomed some familiar faces to the Ware-Jewell Activities Center last Monday and emerged with wins over Sonoravill­e (25-12, 25-8) and LaFayette (25-13, 25-13).

Yancey had six kills and four blocks in the win over the Lady Phoenix, while Boles also finished with six kills. Lee added seven digs and made 12 passes from her libero spot. Madison Mayberry had six digs and four passes, while Pierce collected 14 assists.

Against LaFayette, Yancey had six more kills and picked up two blocks, while Summer Fitzpatric­k finished with four aces. Pierce had 13 assists, while Lee added 10 digs and connected on 18 passes.

Tatum had six kills for LaFayette, while Maggard had six digs, three assists and a pair of kills. Bell had eight digs and two assists, while Morgan and Dixon had seven and six digs, respective­ly.

The night’s other match saw Sonoravill­e pull away late in both sets to score a 25-20, 25-18 victory over LaFayette.

Tatum threw down seven kills to pace the LaFayette offense. Maggard had nine digs and six assists, while Dixon and Emily Redden each had six digs. Baugh chipped in defensivel­y with a pair of blocks.

Lady Trojans pick up area wins

Gordon Lee jumped into Area 4-1A play last Tuesday and picked up a pair of victories in Dalton.

Playing at Morris Innovative, Gordon Lee earned a hard-fought 25-20, 17-25, 25-14 win over North Cobb Christian of Marietta before picking up a much easier 25-3, 25-0 win over the host Lady Tigers.

Boles accomplish­ed a rare feat in the win over Morris Innovative as she served all 25 points consecutiv­ely in the second set. She ended the night with 16 aces, 15 in that set alone, to go with four kills and 25 digs.

Yancey had six kills and four blocks on the evening. Lee had 22 digs and Pierce added 25 assists on 61 sets. Gordon Lee, now 12-1 overall and winners of 12 straight matches, were scheduled to host Darlington and Northwest Whitfield in a tri-match this Tuesday. They will join Ridgeland for a tri-match at LaFayette on Thursday.

Details on LaFayette’s tri-match at Rome on Monday were not available as of press time.

LaFayette (3-7) will take part in a tournament at Coosa this Saturday.
