CVMS takes softball showdown with Rossville

Carlin Scott and Halie Thompson combined for a shutout this past Thursday and the Chattanoog­a Valley Middle School softball team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 9-0 triumph over Rossville at City Park.

Scott started the game in the circle and pitched two innings while striking out five hitters. Thompson fanned four in her two innings of work, while the CVMS coaching staff praised catcher Sky Goble for her work behind the plate.

Six different Lady Eagles had hits in the win, while Ally Grace Thomas, Shelby Merritt and Kylie Collins each scored twice for CVMS.

Individual details for Rossville were not provided as of press time.

CVMS will play at Dade County on Tuesday at 5 p.m. and at Ringgold at 5 on Thursday. Rossville will play on Thursday, Sept. 8, at Gordon Lee, starting at 4:30.

Heritage 3, Gordon Lee 2

The Gordon Lee Middle School Lady Trojans got a completega­me, 11-strikeoout performanc­e from pitcher Emma Minghini, but the offense could manage just four hits against Heritage ace Rachel Gipson as the Navyand-White dropped a 3-2 decision in Ringgold on Thursday.

Allie Farrow had two hits for the Lady Trojans, while Marianne Believeau and Ashlyn Schmidt each added singles.

Gordon Lee (7-21) will face Rossville Thursday in Chickamaug­a in the first league game of the year for the Lady Trojans.

Saddle Ridge JV 11, Rossville JV 1

The Lady Mustangs and Lady Bulldogs played a junior varsity game this past Tuesday with Saddle Ridge claiming the win.

Makayla Cope had two hits and an RBI for the Lady Bulldogs. No individual statistics were provided for Saddle Ridge.

Saddle Ridge rained out in Trenton

One single pitch was all the Lady Mustangs were able to get in on Thursday before a rainstorm delayed and eventually forced a postponeme­nt of their game at Dade County.

Saddle Ridge (24-1) will play another previously scheduled game at Dade County on Thursday, Sept. 8. There had been no word on a makeup date for this past Thursday’s game as of press time.
