SCHOOLS · The LaFayette High School Homecoming Parade will be Thursday, Sept. 8, at 5:30 p.m., beginning and ending in the old Lafayette High School parking lot. No four-wheelers, horses, go-carts or political advertisem­ents allowed. Only entries that are registered at the high school will be allowed in the parade.

COMMUNITY · United Way asks nonprofit organizati­ons to consider submitting a project proposal for the United Way Volunteer Center’s 27th annual Day of Caring. On Thursday, Sept. 8, hundreds of volunteers from local businesses and communitie­s will partner with United Way’s Volunteer Center and other area nonprofit organizati­ons to serve local neighborho­ods through work on community-based projects. The center needs help to find unique volunteer projects where willing volunteers can serve and make the most impact in one day. Nonprofit (501c3) organizati­ons are invited to submit a project need to United Way’s Volunteer Center. More than one project proposal may be submitted (and may be accepted) but each request must be submitted separately. COMMUNITY · Rossville Public Library will be closed Sept. 9-19 to move to a temporary location at the Rossville Athletic Center at 301 Williams Street in Rossville. On Tuesday, Sept. 20, Rossville Public Library will be open to the public at Rossville Athletic Center. Library hours will remain the same. Rossville Public Library will remain at the Rossville Athletic Center for the next four to six months as the McFarland permanent location receives a complete renovation. The newly-renovated library will boast all- new LED lighting, a dedicated teen area, study rooms and stateof-the-art technology. ENTERTAINM­ENT · Southern gospel performers the Testimony Quartet will appear at Sacred Sounds Fridays, Sept. 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ringgold Depot, corner of Depot Street and U.S. 41 in Ringgold, Ga. for the Share America Foundation. She uses puppets, props and audience participat­ion to make her stories fun and entertaini­ng for all ages. As a former first grade teacher, she knows how to connect with children in a way that helps them understand the story instead of just listening.

EDUCATION · Georgia Northweste­rn Technical College (GNTC) is offering all current or potential adult students the opportunit­y to “See for Free” if they are ready to pass the General Educationa­l Developmen­t® test. The free GED Ready® practice tests will be offered Monday-Friday, Sept. 1923, to students at one of the local adult education learning centers in GNTC’s nine county service area. The practice test must be taken at a GNTC Learning Center. Students who take the practice test will find out if they are ready to pass the GED® test, what skills they need to work on to pass the test and will receive a personaliz­ed study plan. Students can also learn about classes and other resources to help them prepare for the test. The Adult Education program at GNTC serves students in nine counties with campuses located in Floyd, Gordon, Polk, Walker, and Whitfield counties and off-campus learning centers in Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Murray, Polk and Walker counties.
