Trojans roll to 3-0

- By Scott Herpst

The Gordon Lee Trojans jumped out to 13-0 lead midway through the first quarter and used a big third quarter to pull away from LFO and beat the Warriors, 51-24, Friday night in Fort Oglethorpe.

LFO (0-3) outscored Gordon Lee, 17-15, in the second quarter to tighten things up and cut the Trojans’ lead to 28-17 at the break. But the Navy-andWhite would score 21 unanswered points in the third quarter and cruise to the win.

Senior Drew Cobb added to what has already been a big season for himself with his best performance of the year to date.

He ran for a 95-yard touchdown on the Trojans’ first play of the game and he added a 65-yard pitch-and-catch for a touchdown on his team’s second play from scrimmage.

He finished with 283 yards on the ground and five rushing touchdowns, scoring three times from four yards out and once from a yard away. He also added 92 yards on three receptions, as he finished with six total scores.

In three games this season, all against higher classification opponents, Cobb has rushed for 718 yards, an average of 239 a game, and has 14 touchdowns on the ground.

He also has 116 yards receiving and one more score, putting him 166 away from 1,000 allpurpose yards less than halfway through the season.

He currently leads all of Walker County in both rushing and receiving yards.

Braden Jarvis had a rushing touchdown on a 79-yard sprint and finished with 115 yards on just five carries, while Logan Hill had 69 yards on the ground. Austin Thompson had 92 yards

in the air, all to Cobb.

The Trojans were credited with a safety in the fourth quarter as a bad snap went over the head of LFO’s quarterback and through the back of the end zone.

With the win over the Class 3A Warriors, and the classification bonus that comes with it, Gordon Lee will likely be the new No. 1 team in the Class 1A Public School power rankings when the numbers are released later this week.

Gordon Lee (3-0) will begin subregion play on Friday when they host Darlington (2-1) at Billy Neil Ellis Stadium.
