Lady Ramblers win on the road, lose at home in region play
The LaFayette Lady Ramblers overcame a four-run first inning by Pickens last Tuesday and pulled out an important 5-4 road win in Jasper.
Madison Pettigrew’s RBI-double in the top of the first inning scored Madison Harris and gave LaFayette an early 1-0 lead. However, the Nettes’ would touch up Pettigrew — who started the game in the circle — for four runs to grab the lead.
Pettigrew would be pulled after 2 1/3 innings in favor of Hannah Blevins, who would shut down the home team on just two hits the rest of the way.
LaFayette began their comeback in the top of the third as Nicky Yancy scored all the way from first base on a throwing error.
Then in the sixth, McKenzie Hogue, who doubled earlier in the game, ripped a tworun single to left to tie things up, 4-4.
A half-inning later, the Lady Ramblers finally regained the lead for good. Kayleigh Goff walked and stole second before coming home on an Ashton Stalling RBI-hit.
Blevins picked up the victory as she struck out four hitters in 4 2/3 innings. Pettigrew gave up four runs, three earned, on seven hits and a walk. She struck out just one.
Hogue and Katie Cook had two hits apiece, while Blevins added a single at the plate.
Northwest Whitfield 6, LaFayette 1
The Lady Ramblers fell to 8-6 overall and 4-5 in Region 6-4A play with a 6-1 home loss to the Lady Bruins on Thursday.
Ashton Stalling drove in the lone run for LaFayette with a double. McKenzie Hogue and Kayleigh Goff also had hits for the Lady Ramblers.
Madison Pettigrew went six innings, allowing six hits. She gave up four runs, only one of which was earned. Hannah Blevins finished up in the circle, giving up two runs — one earned — in one inning of work.
LaFayette will travel to No. 6-ranked Ridgeland on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 5:55 p.m. The Lady Ramblers will host Gilmer on Thursday, also at 5:55, in another rerion game.
