Ramblers pitch Homecoming shutout against Mustangs
LaFayette Middle School improved to 2-1 on the season with a 540 Homecoming victory over Saddle Ridge on Thursday.
Jalen Suttle would score the first two touchdowns for LaFayette, one on a 32-yard run and the second on a 10-yard scamper. Hunter Deal was successful on one of his 2-point conversion runs and the Ramblers led 14-0 early in the second quarter.
The LaFayette defense added to the lead as linebacker Jamario Clements snuffed out a fake punt attempt and returned the interception for a score as quarterback Cade Fisher hit Jaylon Ramsey on the 2-point pass.
Then, on the Mustangs’ next possession, LaFayette defensive end Cody Cook scooped up a fumble and returned it 35 yards for another six points. This time it was Fisher hitting Lennard Pullom on the 2-point conversion to make score 30-0.
The Ramblers would add one final score in the first half as Fisher connected with Ben Maanum on a 17-yard score in the final minute. Pullom would catch the conversion pass to give the home team a 38-0 halftime advantage.
A 12-yard Mason Alexander TD run midway through the fourth quarter, and a conversion run by Fisher, boosted LaFayette’s lead to 46-0 and Alexander would add the final touchdown on a 46yard punt return in the fourth with Clements doing the honors on the conversion.
Clements had eight tackles to go with his interception. Maanum had eight stops and a fumble recovery, while Deal collected nine tackles. Alexander and Colby Thompson had five tackles each, while Thompson recorded a pair of sacks.
Individual statistics for the Mustangs were not provided as of press time.
The Ramblers will head north to face Gordon Lee (2-1) next Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Saddle Ridge (0-3) will entertain Heritage that same afternoon.
