LaFayette finishes second at Model volleyball tournament

The LaFayette Middle School Lady Ramblers took a brief break from the North Georgia Athletic Conference schedule to take part in the Diggin’ With The Devils Tournament at Model last Saturday (Sept. 10)

LaFayette finished 3-2-1 during the day, eventually bringing the runner-up trophy back home to Walker County.

The Lady Ramblers opened with a 25-14, 25-11 victory over Rome before tying Bagley, 2325, 25-17. Their first loss came to Chattanoog­a Christian School, 14-25, 18-25, but they rebounded to beat Bagley, 25-18, 25-22.

They faced Cedartown in the semifinals and picked up a 15-25, 26-24, 25-22 victory to advance to the finals, where they drew CCS once more. But just like their first meeting, the Lady Chargers proved to be too much as the Lady Ramblers fell, 1625, 12-25.

Sarah Ray had 15 kills and four aces on the day, followed by Gracie Hess with eight assists, seven aces and two kills and Gracelin Henry, who had six kills, five aces, three blocks and an one assist.

Kloe Ludy finished the day with seven assists, three aces and a pair of kills. Peyton Lankford added five aces and a kill. Alex Wysong had three kills and two aces, while Sara Adkins collected five aces, four kills and two assists.

Other contributo­rs included Bella Brown (2 kills), Jada Bishop (2 aces) and Libby Perry (80 percent passing).

This past Tuesday, LaFayette went back on the road and swept Lakeview. The Lady Ramblers JV squad claimed a 25-9, 25-16 victory before the varsity finished things off with a 25-12, 25-14 win.

Bishop had four aces in the JV game for LaFayette, followed by Brittany Aguero and Laila Hunter with three each and Abby Keys with one. Wysong had a pair of kills and Alexis Blaylock finished with one.

Ray had seven kills and several more aces in the varsity win. Wysong had five kills, while Aubrey Blankenshi­p finished with four aces and three kills. Hess had two kills, Peyton Lankford added two aces and Adkins had three aces and one kill.

Results of this past Thursday’s match against Rossville were not provided as of press time.
