Water main break gets overnight fix in Flintstone
Walker County Water & Sewerage on-call employees worked throughout Sunday night and into Monday morning to fix a water main break on John Thompson Road in Flintstone.
According to Walker County Coordinator David Ashburn, the on-call crews had to replace four feet of pipe after a six-inch break in the water main.
This break was not as large as one on Sept. 14 near the intersection of Mission Ridge and McFarland roads.
Officials say water mains are rupturing because the current extreme drought causes the ground to shift.
After the work was completed around 3 a.m. Monday, crews used hydrants to flush dirt and debris out of the water lines, ending the work and restoring water to the area around 4 a.m. The amount of water lost is not known at this time.
