Goodlet Farm Festival honors local resident

Goodlet Farm, 331 Straight Gut Road, in Rock Spring, is hosting its second annual Goodlet Farm Festival Saturday, Oct. 1, and Sunday, Oct. 2, in honor of Audrey Hale, a local resident who died of breast cancer. Hale was a keynote speaker at the first festival last year.

Event begins at 11 a.m. and will feature many local authors, a car show, kids activities, arts and crafts, artisans, food, a variety of musicians and new this year is a 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 1:30 p.m.

All proceeds earned will be donated to the Mary Ellen Locher Foundation, a scholarshi­p program for children who have either lost a parent to breast cancer or have a parent who is a breast cancer survivor.

The “Scare Away Breast Cancer 5K Run/Walk” starts and finishes in the heart of Goodlet Farm. Online registrati­on will remain open until the start of the race. All registered runners will get free admission one day only into the Goodlet Farm Festival and get an official Goodlet Farm 5K race hat.

Early packet pickup will be at the farm Saturday, Oct. 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Virtual runner, $25; 5K Run/Walk; $40; Guest (non-runner), $10 and Guest (non-runner/runner) 12 and under, free. There will be a post-race party and awards ceremony on the Goodlet Farm Festival grounds. Decorate a T-Shirt to go along with the theme of “Scare Away Breast Cancer” and enter the Best Decorated T-Shirt Contest. There will be different categories and prizes to go to the winners, as well as a virtual T-Shirt Contest.
