Carolyn Rose West Ellison, of LaFayette, Ga., passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016. She was 53.

She was born in LaFayette and was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a neonatal nurse practition­er with Hutcheson Medical Center for several years.

She was a member of Gordon Lake Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, planting flowers, gardening, making crafts, photograph­y, spending time with her animals and time at the beach.

But what she enjoyed the most was loving every minute she spent with her son Erik.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Wallace West.

Survivors include: Her father, Theo West Sr.; beloved son, Erik Ellison; his father, Rex Ellison all of LaFayette; sister, Ann West of Texas; brothers, Conrad West of Virginia and Theo West Jr., of Tiftonia, Tenn.; her chosen loving adopted family, Vivian (William Sr., deceased) White of LaFayette; Phyllis (Steve) Hunter and family; William “Billy” White Jr., and family; Teresa (Freddy) Cogburn and family; Kathi (Eddie) Bridwell and family and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Etta Louise Hackler Sherrill Ringgold

Etta Louise Hackler Sherrill, of Ringgold, Ga., passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016.

A native of Jellico, Tenn., she lived in the North Georgia, Chattanoog­a area for the past 61 years.

She was a member of Indian Springs Church of God and retired from Kroger in Dalton, Ga., as deli manager after 40+ years of service.

She is preceded in death by lifelong companion, William C. Sherrill; parents, George Lankford and Rosetta Mae Pridemore Hackler; daughter, Sandra Elaine Bowers; three sons, James C. Sherrill Jr., George Edward Sherrill and Johnny Matthew Sherrill; two sisters, Maxine and Ruth Fitzpatric­k and two brothers, George and Sam Hackler.

Survivors include: Her daughter, Lee Ledford of Chattanoog­a; seven siblings, Lorene Delaney of Georgetown, Tenn., Alene Kidd, Margie Lowe, Nannie Cummings, Geneva Miller, Janie Donley and James Hackler all of Jellico; seven grandchild­ren, several great-grandchild­ren and nieces and nephews.

Jerry Ray Zumbro, 71 Chattanoog­a

Jerry Ray Zumbro, of Chattanoog­a, Tenn., passed away Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was 71.

Jerry was a 1963 graduate of Rossville High School. After graduation he served in the United States Navy for three years.

Returning to Chattanoog­a, he graduated from the University of Chattanoog­a and began work at TVA, retiring after 30 years.

He enjoyed mowing the grass and fishing.

Jerry was a member of Rossville Church of Christ. He was a loving and devoted son, brother, father, uncle and friend. He had a genuine love for others and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Zumbro of Murfreesbo­ro, Tenn., and stepfather, Joe W. Jackson of Rossville, Ga.

Patricia Ellen Greene, 77 Ringgold

Patricia Ellen Greene, of Ringgold, Ga., went home to be with the Lord Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, at a local hospital. She was 77.

Ms. Greene, a native of Baltimore, Md., was born Oct. 3, 1938, and spent the past six years in the Ringgold area.

She was previously employed with South Trust Bank, where she worked in the bookkeepin­g/ accounting department.

Her passions in life were taking care of her cats. She loved animals and volunteere­d her time with the Catoosa Citizens for Animal Care.

Patricia was a loving person and will truly be missed by those who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Clara E. Greene; sister, Claire Fuqua and nephew, Joe Fuqua.

Survivors include: Her nephews, Craig (Susan) Fuqua, Brian (Stacy) Fuqua and Kevin Fuqua; niece-inlaw, Stacy Burns and several great-nieces and nephews.

Earl Kenneth Oliver, 92 Chickamaug­a

Earl Kenneth Oliver, of Chickamaug­a, Ga., went home to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016. He was 92.

He was born in Chattanoog­a, Tenn., and lived in Michigan from 1954 before moving back to the North Georgia area in 1971.

Mr. Oliver was of the Baptist faith and was an Army veteran having served in Germany and England during W.W. II.

He was previously employed with C&O Railroad as an engineer for more than 15 years and retired from Rossville Yarn in 1986 after many years of service.

He enjoyed swimming, fishing and hunting and was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfathe­r that will be truly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bud” Oliver and his mother, Harriet “Hattie” Emmerson; two brothers, Joseph and Lester Oliver and three sisters, Melissa Simpson, Susie Smith and Blanche Baxter and son-in-law, Bruce Thomas.

She was born to the late Charles and Barbara While in Loma Linda, Calif., and was a resident of Ringgold for eight years.

Terri was a loving mother, grandmothe­r and sister who will be greatly missed.

Christophe­r J. Petersen, 45

Christophe­r J. Petersen left this world to be with his Eternal Father Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, in his home surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 45.

Survivors include: His parents, Chuck (Carole Nichols) Petersen; his wife, Robyn L. Petersen; his daughter, Crystal N. Petersen; his stepson, Christian Palinkas as well as many other relatives and friends, too numerous to mention.

Chris proudly served as a United States Marine from 1989 to 1993. He was stationed in Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War.

Chris was an avid sports fan and his favorite teams were the Green Bay Packers and the Michigan Wolverines. He loved spending time with his family and friends and was always there for anyone in need.

Lisa worked as a caregiver for most of her life and truly enjoyed helping others.

Carey Miller Clark, of Ringgold, Ga., passed away Monday Sept. 26, 2016. He was 69.

A lifelong resident of the North Georgia area, Carey was a 1965 graduate of Ringgold High School, and a 1970 graduate of the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Fla.

He was a retired employee of Shaw Industries where he worked for over 30 years and was a member of Ringgold First Baptist Church.

Jocelyn Kennedy Yvette Long, of LaFayette, Ga., was granted her angel wings Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016. She was nine months old.

Jocelyn touched the hearts and lives of many during her short time on earth. She will remain in the hearts of those who loved her forever.

Marlin Stayton Russell, 84 LaFayette

Marlin Stayton Russell, of LaFayette, Ga., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was 84.

He served in the Korean Conflict and was awarded several medals. He was very proud of his service.

He worked for Riegel Textile (Mt. Vernon Mills) for 48 years.

Marlin served as deacon for over 50 years at Bethel Memorial Baptist Church, Foster Mill Baptist Church and Walnut Grove Baptist Church.

He was vital in the founding of the Walker County Fire Department Station 15 south of LaFayette, and was one of the station’s first volunteer firefighte­rs serving the community for many years.

He was an avid baseball fan playing alongside his brothers for the Sam Wilson Waco Team in Tennessee and Georgia. The team won state tournament­s, trophies and many awards. His love for the game could be seen through his coaching of baseball and girls softball.

Marlin was a member of the Optimist Club and loved to travel.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Betty June Tumlin Russell; parents, Henry and Della Sharp Russell; daughter, Dana Kaye Hatcher; sister, Betty Eicchorn and brothers, Barney, Carl and Robert Russell.

Doris Jackson Mann, 87 Dalton

Doris Jackson Mann, of Dalton, Ga., formerly of Tunnel Hill, Ga., passed away Saturday, Sept. 24. She was 87.

She was born in LaFayette Nov. 17, 1928, to the late Edwin and Virgie Hilburn Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Mann; grandson, Brian McRae and sister, Pauline Jackson Adams.

Survivors include: Her son, Bo (Sharon) Mann of Dalton; sister, Anna Baird of Summervill­e, Ga.; brother, Carey Earl Jackson of LaFayette; grandchild­ren, Bartley Eric Mann and Capt. Gregory Ellis McRae, U.S. Navy; six greatgrand­children and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Tuesday, Sept. 27, from 6-8 p.m.

Funeral: Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 4 p.m. at Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Danny

Cochran officiatin­g.

Burial: West Hill Cemetery, Trion, Ga.

Deborah Lynn Cook, 60 LaFayette

Deborah “Debbie” Lynn Cook, of LaFayette, Ga., passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was 60.

She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert David Potts and Pearl Vesteen Griffin; nephew, Herschel Burnette and son-inlaw, Ken Green.

Survivors include: Her husband, David Cook; daughters, Kathy (Allen) Kinsey and Lynn Green of Villanow, Brenda (Kelley) Davis

of Copperhill, Tenn., and Leona (Ray) Garrett of LaFayette; sisters, Barbara Burnette of Villanow and Patricia Scott of LaFayette; brothers, David Allen Potts and William Potts of Mississipp­i; grandchild­ren, Kody Green, Mikayla Carroll, Charity Riehl, Blake Longwith and Tyler Garrett; greatgrand­children, Kai

Green, Caiden Riehl, Carter Riehl and Harlan Longwith and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friday, Sept. 30, from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral service: Saturday, Oct. 1, at 11 a.m. at Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Pastor Bill Thornton and Pastor Danny Hobbs officiatin­g.

Burial: White Cemetery.
