LaFayette has new recreation director

Jason Shattuck began his job as LaFayette’s new recreation director on Monday, Sept. 12.

Shattuck, a LaFayette native and 1996 LHS graduate, earned a bachelor of science degree in commercial recreation and tourism from Georgia Southern University in 2000.

He began his career in 2001 at Cherokee (Georgia) Recreation and Parks Authority as a youth sports coordinato­r In 2003, he accepted a position with Dalton Georgia Parks and Recreation Department.

Shattuck has contribute­d to the Dalton team for more than a decade, holding numerous leadership positions, including concession­s manager, recreation center manager, aquatics manager and was most recently facilities coordinato­r (2014).

Dalton Recreation Department has won Georgia Parks and Recreation Associatio­n Agency of the Year for two years running.

“Jason has a well-rounded understand­ing and experience of recreation and a strong desire to seek community feedback on what our community wants for the future of our Recreation,” City Manager David Hamilton said.

“We are excited to bring his passion and vision for growing the recreation department and elevating the quality of life in our community,” Hamilton said.

Shattuck married Jennifer Cole in 2001 and they have a child, Cohen, who is 11 years old.
