Eagles pick up second soccer win

- By Scott Herpst

Cory Taylor scored a pair of goals and the Oakwood Christian Academy high school soccer team made it two straight wins last Tuesday with a 6-1 victory over Apostolic of Knoxville.

J.J. Lanham, Andrew Phillips, Austin Greco and Caleb Epperson also found the net as the Eagles had their biggest offensive output of the season.

Lanham and Greco had five shots on goal each. Benjamin Kelley, Phillips and D.J. Terry had three shots apiece. Taylor and Epperson each took two shots, while Jacob Lewis had one.

Garrison Baggett had six saves in net, while Preston Allen finished with two.

However, the modest streak would be snapped in Maryville, Tenn. two nights later as the Maryville Christian School — the No. 2-seeded team for the league tournament — handed the Eagles a 5-0 loss.

Baggett had 17 saves for Oakwood (2-8), who trailed 2-0 at halftime. Preston Allen had one save as he was in net for the final 10 minutes.

Greco had two shots on goal in the loss, while Epperson, Lanham, Madi Phillips and Trevor Hobbs each had one.

Oakwood, the No. 6–seed in the eightteam SCAA field, was scheduled to open the conference tournament on Monday in Calhoun against Georgia Cumberland Academy at 6 p.m.

Results of the match were not available as of press time.
