Saddle Ridge spikers earn No. 2 seed

The Saddle Ridge varsity volleyball team will be the No. 2 seed when the 2016 North Georgia Athletic Conference tournament gets underway this week.

The Lady Mustangs won their final two matches of the regular season last week to improve to 12-2 on the season.

On Tuesday, they gutted out a three-set win over a scrappy Lakeview squad. Saddle Ridge won the first set, 25-21, but dropped the second set by the identical score. However, the Navy-andRed would rally for a 25-19 win in the decisive third set to claim the victory.

Brooklyn Hudson had a big night with nine kills, six aces, three digs and one assist, while Colby Charland had eight aces, seven digs, four assists and four kills. Kayci Brackett finished with four kills, three digs an one assist, while Daisy Felipe recorded 13 assists to go with an ace, a dig and a kill.

Chloe Day collected five kills, two 2 aces and two digs. Imani Cook also had five kills to go with her one ace and one dig. Sydney Jones had a pair of aces and three digs, while Maddie Moore (10 digs), Ashley Rawlston (4 digs) and Alexis Fleet (1 dig) aided the cause.

Two nights later, the Lady Mustangs had a much easier time with Ringgold, sweeping the Lady Tigers, 25-9, 25-4.

Charland served up 10 aces, while adding six digs and three kills. Brackett had five aces, three kills and a pair of digs. Felipe helped out with eight assists, three aces and three digs and Cook led the way with five kills.

Hudson had three kills, two aces, two digs and an assist, while Day chipped in with three kills. Other standouts included Jones (1 assist, 1 dig), Moore (2 aces, 1 dig), Rawlston (2 digs, 1 kill) and Fleet (1 dig).

The Saddle Ridge JV team ended their season with a 13-1 mark after sweeping Ringgold and Lakeview last week.

Against Ringgold, the Lady Mustangs had little trouble in a 25-5, 25-14 win.

Brylee Durham served up 13 aces to go with two kills. Natalee McClain had six aces, four kills and a dig, while Samantha Cramer finished with five assists and four digs. Justice Devlin recorded four kills, one ace and one block.

Other standouts included Kailey Boulware (2 assists), Winter Johnson (2 digs), Jaden Tucker (3 kills, 1 block), Kaitlyn Helton (1 dig) and Markella Johnson (4 digs, 1 kill).

In Thursday’s match against Lakeview, the Lady Mustangs coasted to a 25-12, 25-18 victory.

Winter Johnson had seven kills and an ace. Devlin had five kills and five aces, while Cramer finished with seven aces, four kills and three digs. Boulware collected six assists to go with two kills and an ace. Tucker had four kills and McClain recorded seven aces and a kill.

Other contributo­rs included Durham (2 aces, 1 dig), Helton (9 digs, 2 assists, 1 ace), Markella Johnson (4 digs, 2 assists) and Amylia Grace Kelley (5 digs).

The NGAC tournament will be held at LaFayette Middle School beginning on Tuesday. The finals are slated for Thursday.
