- By Scott Herpst

The Saddle Ridge varsity softball team suffered a tough loss this past Tuesday, but rebounded nicely two days later to post their biggest victory of the season.

Up 1-0 after Ashlyn Jenkins scored in the top of the first inning, the Lady Mustangs weren’t able to hold the lead as the Lady Tigers pushed home two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to claim the victory in Ringgold.

Ringgold would tie the game in the fifth before taking the lead an inning later. Saddle Ridge threatened in the top of the seventh by getting the tying runs on base. However, the Lady Tigers would eventually slam the door shut.

Madi Ashley was 2 for 3 with a double for Saddle Ridge, while Jenkins was also 2 for 3. Summer Burkett had a single in the loss, while Haley Stahl pitched well, despite the loss. She finished with two strikeouts.

Two nights later, the Navy-and-Red took out some frustration on the Lady Warriors and enjoyed their biggest offensive output of the season.

Stahl fired a one-hit shutout to avenge a loss to the Lady Warriors earlier this season. She finished the game with three strikeouts.

Ashley had a big night at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a double and four RBI’s. Gracie Hamilton was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Jenkins and Anna Grace Gilreath both had two hits and one RBI. Jenkins crossed the plate three times, while Gilreath scored once.

Stahl, Burkett, Abby Sansing and LaTyah Barber all had one hit, one RBI and one run scored, while Madison Sisemore had an RBI and scored once. Haynie Gilstrap scored twice and third baseman Lexi Baker was solid on defense all game long.

Saddle Ridge (4-9-1) will play LaFayette on Tuesday and Gordon Lee on Thursday. Both games will start at 5 p.m. at LaFayette High School.
