XC teams test skills at Baylor

The Dalton boys and Baylor girls raced to comfortabl­e victories last Tuesday’s Chattanoog­a Cross Country League meet at Baylor.

The Catamounts finished with 58 points, while the Baylor girls cruised to the win with 38 points.

Jonathan Boyd of the Chattanoog­a Patriots won the boys’ individual title with a time of 16:24, while tte Patriots also had the girls’ individual winner in Kathryn Vradenburg­h, who clocked in at 20:07.

Ridgeland was the top-finishing team among the Walker County boys’ teams as they came in 16th among the 31 teams in attendance. Gordon Lee was 18th and LaFayette finished in 20th.

Gabe Ashley was 18th overall for the Panthers in a time of 18:05. Coby Voyles (19:15), Bode Tucker (20:48), Myers Tucker (20:53), Juan Velazquez (21:36), Brandon Hair (21:44) and Will Voyles (22:45) rounded out the lineup for Ridgeland.

Justin Collins (34th overall) paced the Trojans with a time of 18:49, followed by Jasper Wilson (20:07), Bailey Burns (20:16), Jake Wright (20:28), Ian Goodwin (20:59), Rob Napier (22:00) and Braxton Ledford (22:52).

Mason Burkett led the Ramblers with a 19:41. The rest of the LaFayette lineup included Matthew Newsom (19:55), Noah Armstrong (20:46), Trey Henderson (20:47), William Sainthill (20:51), Eric Hu (20:54) and Beau Thrash (21:07).

On the girls’ side, LaFayette was 18th in the field as Maddie Stier ran a solid 25:10 to pace the team. Kaci Rogers (25:20) was second-best for the Lady Ramblers on Tuesday, followed by Brianna Minor (28:42), Ali Gilbreath (29:28), Sierra Jackson (30:07), Rachel Graham (31:07) and Hannah Elliott (32:11).

Katelyn Gilliam (24:36) paced Gordon Lee, who finished 20th overall. Sarah Young (26:39), Chanler Hysell (28:31), Emma Cate Dendy (29:37) and Kaitlyn Hester (31:05) filled out the Lady Trojans’ lineup.

Madison Morris was the Lady Panthers’ lone runner, clocking in at 35:02.

Trojans 14th at Darlington

Gordon Lee faced a tough Atlanta-area heavy field at the Darlington Cross Country Festival in Rome on Saturday and finished in 14th place overall against teams in several classifica­tions.

Collins ran an 18:20 for Gordon Lee, followed by Wilson at 18:29. The rest of the Trojans’ lineup included Burns (19:34), Wright (19:45), Goodwin (19:57), Ledford (21:28) and Napier (22:31).

Jake Lee (21:59) and Alex Stone (25:06) ran in the boys’ JV race for Gordon Lee.

Gilliam paced the Lady Trojans with a 23:59, followed closely by Gracie O’Neal (24:00), while Young clocked in at 25:00.
