often are more affected by what happens in Chattanooga than anywhere in Georgia, should the county consider a similar union — either or both the County and Joint economic development authorities — with the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission?
A: Yes, generally the county should form strategic partnerships when it is in the county’s best interest to do so, but we need to approach our membership in regional authorities and commissions using a cost-benefit analysis. If membership would provide significant benefits to Walker County that could not be accomplished by the development authorities we already participate in, then we should consider that partnership.
When our participation in these partnerships does not have proven results, but we pay into the partnership, I will take a serious look at whether we should discontinue the partnership. The question should always be in these partnerships, are we making an investment or are we just spending money?
Q: You have addressed issues of management, finance and plans about how you intend to govern if elected. Regardless of who is declared winner or is involved in a potential runoff after the Nov. 8 election, what is your vision of Walker County’s future in 2020?
A: This is the most important election Walker County has ever had. We are at a crossroads of significant change in the future of Walker County. I envision a government that is open, transparent, and accountable to the people. A county government that is finally after over 70 years not controlled by a single elected official. A county where people finally trust local government to do what is in the best interest of Walker County, and not for their personal gain. A county that has been managed very well financially over the last 4 years, so the people will start to see the hope of a county that can be debt free! A county that has seen proven leadership by moving county government out of businesses that should be run by the private sector. A county that has been able to restore its credit rating, so it can move out of the junk bond market. A county where you want to tell your friends and family to move to, due to the natural beauty of the area, as well as year after year of award winning schools, and a county with record low crime. Yes, this is all possible in just 4 short years! This is all obtainable, and can be the new Walker County! It is time for a change in Walker County, and this very important election will determine our future! So the question really is, will you vote for change in this election, so we can start down this new path, to be the best county 2020?
