Lady Bobcats to close out season this Monday at home
A tough slide for the Georgia Northwestern Lady Bobcats volleyball team continued last week as they dropped both ends of a home tri-match on Monday before losing two during a road tri-match on Saturday.
Playing at Rossville Athletic Center for the school’s annual Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Night, Georgia Northwestern began the evening with a 25-18, 25-11 loss to the Bryan College JV squad before their night came to a close with a 25-15, 25-17 setback to Hiwassee College.
Kaitlyn Castle had a team-high eight kills for the Lady Bobcats to go with six digs, two aces and one block. Sierra Crew had four kills, two digs and two blocks, while Shelby Thompson added 10 digs, three kills and six assists.
Georgia Northwestern made the drive to Nashville, Tenn. on Saturday where they faced Welch College and Boyce College out of Kentucky in another tri-match.
The Lady Bobcats saw a 15-7 lead in the second set disappear as they lost to the hosts, 25-18, 25-23. Then in the second match, Boyce claimed a 25-10, 25-12.
Crew had four kills, four aces, three digs and a block. Castle finished with four kills, eight digs and an ace, while Thompson added three kills, eight digs, a block and an ace. Other contributors included Serena Turner (7 assists, 2 blocks) and Misty Hunter (2 kills, 1 block). “We only had six girls available on Saturday, so I’m very proud of the way they handled the situation,” head coach Carrie Powell said. “They really had positive attitudes.”
Results of Monday’s home game against the Covenant College JV squad were not available as of press time.
Georgia Northwestern (1-10) will close out the season on Monday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. against Oakwood University out of Huntsville, Ala.
