Democratic committee meets Meeting minutes for Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016

-

Greg’s Restaurant, Chickamauga

Present: David Boyle, Aleq Boyle, David Cofield, Bob Coulter, Jim Halliday, Pam Halliday, Finley Johnson, Susan Darling, Deb Nicholas, Nick Nicholas, Mike Rasbury, Bobby Teems, Terry Tucker, Rhys Turner, Shawn Turner, Donald White. Also attending Perry Lamb and Shannon Whitfield, candidates for Walker County Commissioner.

Fellowship and news were shared over dinner. Great to be with a group where people like each other and listen to diverse opinions. Several items were discussed during the meeting:

Campaign signs and literature can be picked up at Tailspinners at the corner of US 27 and E. Reed Road in Noble. Call ahead (764-0069)

Joseph Leigh will manage our Vote Builder database access provided by the state office. We will decide how to use it at later meetings.

There will be a Walker Democrats table at the Marsh House Heritage Days, Saturday, Oct. 1, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Volunteers signed up for twohour time periods. There will be registration materials at the table (Thanks, David Cofield). Please drop by and show interest. Bring any flags or showy objects for the table.

We forgot to take an offering. Bring donations to next meeting or leave them at Heritage Day.

Georgia voting in November. There was a general feeling that Clinton/Kaine will win in Georgia this year and that Senator Jim Barksdale will replace Johnny Isakson in the US Senate. Everyone agreed to push for a high turnout in Walker County.

Both Perry Lamb and Shannon Whitfield gave an overview of their plans for Walker County with questions and answers afterward. There may be a candidate debate or forum later. We will play a neutral role, if so.

There was agreement to do all that we can to defeat the Opportunity School District Georgia Constitutional Amendment, which will be on the ballot in November. It looks like an effort to transfer tax dollars to private corporations.

NEXT MEETING: Thursday, Oct. 27, 6:30 p.m. at Dari Dip on Villanow Street in LaFayette. Pam Halliday, Secretary
