Rossville shooting suspect sought
As of Monday, the Walker County Sheriff’s Department was still looking for the suspect in an Oct. 12 shooting in Rossville.
The victim, 37-year-old Christopher Moore of 205 Summit St. in Rossville, was working under the hood of a car when shot twice in the back.
According to Detective Andy Cash, the shooter was about 15 feet from Moore when he fired. Moore apparently turned to defend himself and used his arm to block the shots, Cash said.
As of Monday, Oct. 17, the shooter remained at large. Also, it was not confirmed if Moore was still in the hospital, as investigators said they had received conflicting information regarding his status.
The shot to his arm went through and struck him in the abdomen, leaving three gunshot wounds, Cash said. The weapon may have been a .22-caliber firearm, he said.
Witnesses near the scene reported hearing anywhere between one and three shots fired. A witness at the residence called 911. Moore is an independent mechanic who works from his residence in Rossville.
The suspect is described as a tall slender black male, wearing a jacket with a head covering. The suspect also had long dreadlocks as described by the victim and two witnesses. The victim stated he recognized the suspect as a former customer. Moore described the suspect as “tall and lanky.”
The suspect fled the scene and escaped in a white Jeep SUV model, possibly a Jeep Liberty or newer model Cherokee, but the model of the vehicle has not been confirmed at this time.
