Chattanooga Street paving bid awarded to Talley Construction
After considering two bids, the city of LaFayette has decided to contract Talley Construction to repave Chattanooga Street at a bid of $289,487.
Work has been going on at Chattanooga Street since around February of this year.
At a special called meeting at City Hall on Thursday, Oct. 13, the two bids were announced. The Talley Construction bid was the lowest as the other bid was priced at $304,216 by Northwest Georgia Paving Inc.
Talley Construction will have until Nov. 30 to complete the work on Chattanooga Street.
The motion to take Talley’s bid passed 4-0.
The city saved money by using in-house labor to repair water lines along the roadway of Chattanooga Street and bid out the paving after a three-phase process.
This in-house work is projected to save taxpayers about $1 million.
Project funding comes from special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) revenue.
“We bid this project out and could not get it done for less than $1.2 million and we are on track to do it in-house for $237,000,” council member Ben Bradford said at the April 11 meeting.
According to City Manager David Hamilton, the project could take 3-4 days to complete, but can only start once Talley Construction completes other jobs, including work in the county.
The project has been in the works for nearly three years.
All in house work has been complete including repairs to water lines, gas lines, and culverts. The only item left is some milling work, where the asphalt is ground down on the rough patches in the road north of Henderson Street.
