Heritage pulls away in second half

The Heritage Generals took another step toward making the state football playoffs for the first time in program history after rallying from a halftime deficit to beat LaFayette, 47-21, on Senior Night at Jeff Sims Field on Friday.

Heritage (6-3, 3-2) will continue to focus on improving, heading into this week’s open date, before they travel to Pickens on Nov. 4 in a game that will have major implicatio­ns on the region standings.

The Generals got on the board with a 16-yard run by Austin Ferguson midway through the first quarter, but a 2-point conversion attempt failed. LaFayette would take their first lead of the game, 7-6, less than two minutes into the second quarter.

Heritage would answer on a 28-yard Corbee Wilson-toFerguson touchdown pass and a 7-yard run by Lavarius Hood with 2:42 left in the half.

But the Ramblers would stun the home crowd by scoring twice in the final 2:42 to forge a 21-20 lead the break.

However, the lead would be short-lived as Heritage would score 27 unanswered points in the second half. Two third-quarter scores

would come from Ryan Carter on an 11-yard run and Luke Grant on a 28yard pass from Wilson with 14 seconds left in the period.

Colton Lane scored all three touchdowns for the Ramblers (26, 0-4). He caught TD passes of 4 and 3 yards from quarterbac­k Logan Teasley and added a 3-yard TD run. He finished with 37 yards on 13 carries.

KaDarrin Ramsey paced LaFayette with 81 yards on 12 carries, while Dakota Cathey had 25 yards on seven attempts. Teasley was 3-of-9 in the air for 10 yards.

Houston Lumpkin led the defense with 7.5 tackles, including seven of the solo variety. Tyler Beard had 5.5 tackles, while Bryson Smith had three tackles, two going for a loss, with one quarterbac­k hurry. Jake Russell also had an intercepti­on for the Ramblers.

LaFayette will have their own Senior Night this Friday as they look to play spoiler against the visiting Pickens Dragons.
