Leslie Moreland, 83 Rossville

Leslie Moreland, of Rossville, Ga., passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was 83.

He was originally from Whiteside, Tenn., and joined the U. S. Army in 1953 at the age of 19. He was a 1st Sgt. with the 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Ky., and after serving his family and country for more than 20 years he retired in 1973 at the age of 39

He served three years in Germany, one year in Korea and then served during Vietnam from 1967 to 1969.

1st Sgt. Moreland was a recipient of the Purple Heart and was presented a ceremonial certificat­e by area veterans for his service to our country. Leslie and Sue were married for more than 60 years and served our country side by side. When he would go overseas, she kept the home and children safe and ready for his return.

They were a solid, happy couple with a beautiful family. Leslie was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfathe­r and great-grandfathe­r that will truly be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise Moreland Keef and Jim Moreland; son, Kenneth Moreland Sr.; brothers, James, Coye and Charles and sister, Katherine.

Survivors include: His loving wife of more than 60 years, Sue Dagnan Moreland of Rossville; daughters, Diana Moreland of Rossville, Leslie (Phil) Hill of LaFayette; son, Timothy M. (Tina) Moreland of Lawrencevi­lle, Ga.; sister, Margie (Joe) Johannson of Fayettevil­le, N.C.; nine grandchild­ren, James, Jason S., Kenneth Moreland Jr., Amanda, Kristen, Sarah, Jason H, Allyson and Erin; 22 great-grandchild­ren and numerous extended family and friends.

Visitation: Wednesday, Oct. 19, after 5 p.m., all day Thursday and prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.

Funeral service: Friday, Oct. 21, at 1 p.m. in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Minister Darryl Vaughn officiatin­g.

Burial: Hooker Cemetery, Dade County, Ga.
