Mat Trojans continue county dominance

The middle school wrestling season got going on Saturday as Rossville hosted the four-team Walker Cup.

And a familiar name was hoisting the trophy at the end of the day.

The Gordon Lee Trojans continued their recent run of dominance by beating Rossville, Saddle Ridge and LaFayette to win the Walker Cup.

Gordon Lee began the day with a 62-24 win over the Bulldogs, in part from pins by Tanner Wilson (100 pounds), Cade Peterson (108), Troy Plemons (115), Garrison Dendy (123), Logan Butler (130), Cameron Oliver (150), Justin Cruise (165) and Garrett Morton (180).

Bryce James (86) won by technical fall, Penn Askew (94) won a minor decision and Canaan Underwood (275) won by forfeit.

Rossville got pins by Betts (72), Homsombath (140) and Lamb (220) and received a forfeit win at 78.

The second match saw Gordon Lee beat Saddle Ridge, 72-12, as James (86), Askew (94), Dendy (123), Butler (130), Wyatt McDonald (140), Oliver (165) and Morton (180) won by pin.

Cade Peterson (108) won a minor decision, while Wil Tumblin (72), Jacob Kendall (150), Burnette (220) and Underwood (275) all won by forfeit. There was a double forfeit at 78.

Avery Sullivan (100) won by pin for the Mustangs, while Carson Lanier (115) won a minor decision.

The Trojans’ final match of the day was a 66-24 victory over the Ramblers as Tumblin (72), James (86), Askew (94), Wilson (100), Peterson (108), Plemons (115), Dendy (123), Crawford (150), Oliver (165), Morton (180) and Burnette (220) won by pinfall.

Alexander (130), Deal (140) and Prince (275) won by pin for LaFayette, while Johnson (78) picked up a forfeit victory.

Saddle Ridge lost their match to LaFayette, but defeated Rossville. Sullivan had three pins on the day for the Mustangs, while Landon Plank had pins against LaFayette and Rossville. Karson Ledford won by pin against LaFayette and had a technical fall against Rossville.

Steven Sanford and Dylan Parker won by pin against Rossville. Dakota Catlett had pins versus LaFayette and Rossville and Michael Akins won by major decision against Rossville.

No other match scores or individual results were provided as of press time.
