Melvin Troy McGuffey, 79 Ringgold

Melvin “Mel” Troy McGuffey, of Ringgold, Ga., went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016. He was 79.

He was a long time area resident where he retired from East Tennessee Natural Gas Co. after 32 years of service.

Mel was a member of Salem Baptist in Ringgold where he sang in the choir, served as church treasurer and Sunday School teacher.

He served honorably in the United States Army Reserves and was a member of the American Legion Post 40 in Ringgold.

Mel volunteere­d at Christ Chapel and served as vice chairman of the board. He served on the City of Ringgold’s Planning and Zoning Committee for the past eight years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ethel White McGuffey.

Survivors include: His loving wife of 24 years, Charlotte Ensley McGuffey; children, Cherie (Tim) Kuhns of Hixson Tenn., Norman (Kaye) McGuffey of Cleveland, Tenn., Stephen (Shannon) McGuffey of Cleveland, Matthew (Zandra) McGuffey of Ooltewah, Tenn.; brother, Lester (Evelyn) McGuffey of Batesville, Ark.; 14 grandchild­ren, one great-granddaugh­ter and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory.

Funeral service: Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Chris Davidson and Rev. Glenn Cavin officiatin­g.

Burial: Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.
