Mamie Arene Crowder Newton, 95 Ringgold

Mamie Arene Crowder Newton, of Ringgold, Ga., died peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at her home in Ringgold. She was 95.

Although she grew up in Chattanoog­a, Tenn., she was a resident of Georgia for most of her life, having lived in Rossville and Ft. Oglethorpe prior to moving to Ringgold.

Miss Mamie, as she was known, was the oldest member of Community Baptist Church in Rock Spring, Ga. She was the matriarch and prayer warrior and greatly loved by the members. She and her husband, Milton, were founding members of Memorial Baptist Tabernacle where she taught the ladies Bible class for 46 years.

For many years she and her father operated a grocery store in Rossville.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Milton Lee Newton Sr.; son, Milton Lee Newton Jr., of Savannah, Ga.; her twin sister, Minnie Irene Wilson and her parents, Howard and Cordelia Farr Crowder all of Rossville.

Survivors include: Her daughter, Treasa (Bill) Akins of Ringgold; sister, Betty Lacy of Signal Mountain; granddaugh­ter, Terri (Hoguer) Hernandez; great-grandchild­ren, Sarah Schorle and Caleb Hernandez of Ringgold and Mitchell Akins of Atlanta; two great-great granddaugh­ters and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friday, Nov. 4, from 5-9 p.m. and Saturday, 11 a.m. until funeral time at the funeral home.

Funeral service: Saturday, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mike Angel officiatin­g.

Burial: TennesseeG­eorgia Memorial Park.
