Saddle Ridge has two champions at CCS Charger Clash

The Saddle Ridge Mustangs won two matches and lost two matches last week before a solid performanc­e at the Charger Clash at Chattanoog­a Christian School to close out the week.

At home this past Tuesday, the Mustangs defeated CCS, 6333, before slipping past Rossville on a tiebreaker after the match ended in a tie.

Aiden Cook, Avery Sullivan, Karson Ledford, Dylan Parker and Chase Blevins all won by pinfall. Carson Lanier earned a win by decision and Dakota Catlett, Michael Akins and Gavin Lankford all won by forfeit against the Chargers.

Garrett Dunn, Logan Haynes and Chaz Harris won by pin in junior varsity matches.

Against Rossville, the Mustangs got pins from Sullivan, Ledford, Catlett, Akins and Landon Plank, while Lanier and Steven Sanford won via decision. Dunn, Cook and Kevin Kremb won their JV matches by pin.

Saddle Ridge lost twice at home on Thursday to fall to 3-4 on the season.

The Mustangs opened with a 52-27 to Eastbrook from Whitfield County. Cook (94 pounds) and Lankford (275) had firstperio­d pins. Lanier (123) won a tight bout, 3-2, while Plank (86) and Sullivan (100 pounds) each won by forfeit.

In junior varsity matches, Connor Fitzgerald won by pin, while Haynes (13-4) and Tristan Lytle (6-2) won on points.

Saddle Ridge ended the night with a narrow 46-42 loss to Dade County.

Cook (94), Sullivan (100), Ledford (108), Lanier (123), Parker (130) and Catlett (165) scored victories by pinfall, while Lankford (275) had his hand raised with a forfeit.

In junior varsity matches, Fitzgerald, Haynes, Dunn and Jacob Benson won by pin, while Sanford won by technical fall.

Then on Saturday, the Mat Mustangs had two champions, two runners-up and two more top four finishers at the CCS tournament.

Sullivan claimed the 100-pound title with four pins, all coming in the first period and no match lasting longer than 45 seconds. He needed just 32 seconds to stick Hunter West of Ocoee Middle School in the finals.

Meanwhile, at 123, Parker also scored four wins by pinfall to win an individual title. He won the tournament by pinning Lake Forest’s Kabob Parris in the finals.

Cook (86) defeated wrestlers from McCallie

and Lake Forest before losing to Caymen Hughey of Baylor in the finals. The other second place finisher was Ledford (108), who beat two wrestlers from Lake Forest and pinned JoJo Giles of Rossville before losing to Baylor’s Porter Kaufman, 12-10.

Plank took third at 86 pounds, beating Malaki Diaz of Whitwell twice on the day, including the consolatio­n finals. Lanier went on to place fourth at 115.

Chase Blevins and James Titsworth, both wrestling 140, each won two matches by pin on Saturday, while Dunn (86), Sanford (100) and Benson (115) all recorded one pin on the day.
