NGAC Girls’ Basketball: Gordon Lee wins 3-OT thriller

Marianne Beliveau scored just two points for the Gordon Lee Middle School Lady Trojans last Tuesday night and they couldn’t have come at a more important time.

With her team down by one point, Beliveau beat the buzzer with her only basket of the night to give the Lady Trojans a season-opening 3231 home victory over Ringgold in triple overtime.

Addison Sturdivant had a game-high 11 points for Gordon Lee, while Emoree Rogers added eight. Maddison Farrow scored four points in the win. Emma Minghini and Ashlyn Schmidt had three each and Emma Langston added one.

Individual scores for Ringgold were not provided as of press time.

Heritage girls 31, Gordon Lee 27

The Lady Trojans fell to 1-1 overall on the season as they dropped a home game to the Lady Generals this past Thursday.

Minghini had a big night offensivel­y for the Navy-and-White with 16 points. Sturdivant finished with six points. Langston and Beliveau had two points apiece, while Rogers added one.

Heritage JV girls 24, Gordon Lee 16

The Lady Trojans’ junior varsity squad also fell to the Lady Generals on Thursday.

Allie Farrow paced Gordon Lee with eight points, followed by Mika Smith with four, Katilyn Wagoner with three and Carly Deck with one.

Saddle Ridge girls 40, Rossville 7

The Lady Mustangs led 17-0 after one quarter and coasted to a season-opening win over the Lady Bulldogs in Rossville this past Tuesday.

LaTyah Barber had 13 points and added five steals to pace Saddle Ridge, followed by Mykeria Johnson with six points and Ashlyn Jenkins with five points and three steals. Madi Ashley had just four points, but pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds.

Emalee Harris had four points for the Lady Bulldogs, who also lost to Dade County on Thursday to fall to 0-2. No other details on that game were provided.

Saddle Ridge girls 29, Trion 22

For the first time in the program’s history, the Lady Mustangs are 2-0 after scoring a victory in Trion this past Thursday. Barber poured in 18 points to go with four rebounds, four steals and a pair of blocks as Saddle Ridge opened the game on a 16-4 run.

Johnson had five points and filled up the stat sheet with seven rebounds and three blocks. Ashley chipped in with four points and grabbed nine more rebounds, while Imani Cook added two points in the win.

Also contributi­ng for the Lady Mustangs were Gracie Hamilton (4 points), Haley Stahl (4 points, 7 rebounds), Sam Cramer (2 points), Abby Sansing (2 points) and Anna Grace Gilreath (5 rebounds).

Trion girls 30, Chattanoog­a Valley 26

Emma McGraw had 12 points and Annabel Hill had six points and a dozen rebounds in the Lady Eagles’ road loss last Tuesday. Cordasia Watkins had four points and nine rebounds for CVMS.

Chattanoog­a Valley 23, Lakeview 20

The Lady Eagles improved to 1-1 on the young season as they held off the Warriors this past Thursday night in Flintstone.

CVMS led 12-8 at the end of the first half.

Macie Boren and Jenna Morgan shared team-high honors with six points each for CVMS. Hill grabbed 11 rebounds. Watkins had five boards and Sahara Higdon finished with four.

Dade County girls 42, LaFayette 12

The Lady Ramblers opened their season last Tuesday with a loss to the Lady Wolverines.

Heather Tucker had six points in the loss, followed by Erin Hughes with four. Aubrey Blankenshi­p and Savanna Hall had one point each.

LaFayette girls 28, Ringgold 23

The Lady Ramblers rebounded nicely from the loss by picking up a home victory over the visiting Lady Tigers on Thursday.

Blankenshi­p led the way for LaFayette with a dozen points, followed by Tucker with 10.

Hughes and Miccaylah Thompson chipped in with four points each and Kaitlyn Pendergras­s finished with two.
