NGAC Boys’ Basketball: LaFayette, Gordon Lee off to quick starts

The season may have just started, but Cam Porter already looks to be in mid-season form for the LaFayette Middle School Ramblers.

Last Tuesday night, Porter began his season by hitting three 3-pointers en route to 21 points in LaFayette’s 56-23 victory at Dade County. Porter also added eight rebounds, five steals, three assists and three blocks.

Jaylon Ramsey also had a big night as he added a dozen points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals. Aidan Hadaway had six points, six boards and four steals, while Cade Fisher dropped in five points, grabbed six rebounds and recorded two assists and two steals.

Lennard Pullom had two points, two rebounds and a pair of steals in the win. Ben Maanum had two points and four rebounds. JaMario Clements picked up two points and two steals. Jalen Suttle had two blocks and grabbed seven rebounds, while Lukas Dierking also contribute­d for the Ramblers.

LaFayette boys 48, Ringgold 17

The Ramblers also improved to 2-0 with a home win over the Tigers on Thursday.

Ramsey paced the winners with 13 points. He also added six assists, six steals, three rebounds and a pair of blocks. Pullom hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points, three assists and a steal, while Porter ended his night with seven points, seven boards, five steals and two blocks.

Hadaway finished with seven points, four rebounds and one steal. Junior Barber added five points, four steals and three rebounds. Clements had two points and a steal, while Dierking had two points, two rebounds and a steal.

Other standouts included Suttle (7 rebounds, 1 steal), Fisher (2 rebounds, 4 steals) and Maanum (3 rebounds).

Gordon Lee boys 29, Ringgold 10

Jake Poindexter poured in 18 points and completed the double-double with 13 rebounds as the Trojans shut down the Tigers in a season-opening win last Tuesday.

GLMS led 12-4 at halftime and outscored Ringgold 12-0 in fourth quarter. Logan Simerley had four points. Anthony Peco added three points and six rebounds, while Jacob Neal also had a big game on the boards for the Trojans.

Gordon Lee boys 36, Heritage 30

For the second straight game, the Trojans used a big fourth quarter to propel themselves to a win.

Facing Heritage at home on Thursday, the Trojans led 17-13 at halftime, but fell behind 27-23 after three quarters of play. But Gordon Lee would dominate the third quarter, 13-3, to score a 36-30 win and move to 2-0 on the year.

Will Carswell had a team-high 10 points to go with three rebounds and a pair of steals. Poindexter scored nine points and pulled down six boards. Peco chipped in with seven points and two steals, while Cayden Powell dished out a team-high four assists.

Rossville boys 47, Saddle Ridge 31

The Bulldogs stormed out to a 32-5 lead at halftime last Tuesday. The Mustangs would battle back, outscoring the hosts 26-15 in the second half, but it was too little too late as Rossville opened its season with a win.

Zack Harrison, Chance Sharp and Landon Ownby had eight points each in the win, while Chase Watkins and Tye Whaley each scored six.

Chris Bell led all scorers with 14 points for Saddle Ridge. Brent Minor finished with eight and Ethan Kruger had two. Gabe Kirkendoll and Garrison Fults scored two points apiece.

Dade County boys 30, Rossville 27

The Bulldogs dropped a close decision to the Wolverines two nights later. Whaley had 10 points for the Bulldogs (1-1).

Trion boys 62, Saddle Ridge 34

The Mustangs scored 17 points in the opening quarter to take the lead on the road on Thursday, but Trion would storm back to claim the victory.

Bell led all scorers with 26 points for Saddle Ridge, who fell to 0-2 on the year. Mullaly added four points, while Minor and Owen Pierard both had two points.

Trion boys 35, Chattanoog­a Valley 30

The Eagles fought back from a 17-11 halftime deficit to take a 22-21 lead entering the fourth quarter on Tuesday. But the hosts would outscore CVMS, 14-8, over the final period to pick up the victory.

Kobe Lewis had five of his nine points in the third quarter, while Jordan McLin finished with seven points for the Eagles.

Lakeview boys 48, Chattanoog­a Valley 33

Jeremiah Turner had 10 points for the Eagles (0-2) at home on Thursday, six coming in the fourth quarter. Nate Davis went for eight points, including a pair of threes in the opening period.

Chatt. Valley JV boys 30, Saddle Ridge 26

In junior varsity action last Monday, K’yan Clark and Chanse Lewis had seven points each in the Eagles’ win. Logan Montgomery and Jacob Klein each finished with six points.

Teddy Ownby had 11 points for the Mustangs, followed by Cole Spears with eight and Mullaly with four.

Lakeview JV boys 23, Chattanoog­a Valley 20

Clark had nine points for the Eagles in a loss at Lakeview on Thursday.
