Betty Brewster Tunnel Hill

Betty Brewster, of Tunnel Hill, Ga., went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016.

She was a resident of the Chattanoog­a and North Georgia area for the past 60 years and was a member of Catoosa Baptist Tabernacle.

Betty was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmothe­r and loved her church.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, R.L. Brewster and greatgrand­son, Isaiah Andrew Blesch.

Survivors include: Sons, Steve (Judy) Brewster of Tunnel Hill, Alan (Pam) Brewster of Ringgold, Alysia (Gary) Hughes of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers, Ed Shamblin of Chico, Calif., and Ronnie Shamblin of Jasper, Tenn.; grandchild­ren, Karen Hawkins, Amy Blesch, Lisa Lewis, Madison Hughes and Mackenzie Hughes; greatgrand­children, Riley Hawkins, Raleigh Lewis, Brady Hawkins, Elijah Blesch, Faith Blesch, Deacon Lewis, Isaac Blesch and Amiya Blesch and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Monday, Nov. 14, from 5-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory Battlefiel­d Parkway.

Funeral service: Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Atkins officiatin­g.

Burial: Lakewood Memory Gardens East.

Tommie Lee Allen Hargraves, 72 Ringgold

Tommie Lee Allen Hargraves, of Ringgold, Ga., passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016. He was 72.

A native of Baltimore, Md., she lived in the Ringgold, LaFayette area most of her life.

She was a former employee of Shaw Industries and was of the Baptist faith.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hargraves; parents, Robert Lee and Mary Elizabeth Jarrad Allen and two sisters, Robbie VanPelt and Mildred Frady.

Survivors include: Her children, Ronnie Davis of Bradenton, Fla., Connie Davis Humphries of Ringgold, Ga., and John “Jay” Holmes of Ringgold, Ga.; two sisters, Mary Nell (Jay) Penley of Tunnel Hill, Ga., and Wanda (Richard) Monds of Hixson, Tenn.; four grandchild­ren, Jacqueline Burgess, Matthew Allen Humphries, Madison Davis and Parker Davis and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial: Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 2:30 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Gardens with Bro. Ernie Reno officiatin­g.

Ruth Bryan Nave, 93 Rossville

Ruth Bryan Nave, of Rossville, Ga., passed away Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, with her family by her side. She was 93.

Mrs. Nave was born in Rossville Aug. 31, 1923, to the late Guy and Lela McFarland Shambaugh and was a lifelong member of McFarland United Methodist Church and faithfully served others as a member of the Anchor Sunday School Class. Her ancestors, the McFarlands were early settlers of Rossville and gave the land for the current McFarland United Methodist Church.

Ruth was a good friend and neighbor and sincerely cared about the welfare of other people. She was a very supporting, nurturing wife, mother, grandmothe­r and friend, enjoyed playing games at family gatherings and will be fondly remembered and dearly missed. She goes to her heavenly reward with a job well done.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, Franklin and Mac Shambaugh; sisters, Mary Alice Dantzler and Marcia Shambaugh; several brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.

Survivors include: Her loving husband of 68 years, Harry C. “Bud” Nave; daughters, Diane (Randy) Brittain and Deborah (Trip) Finney; son, David (Rhonda) Nave; grandchild­ren, Aaron (Molly) Brittain, Laura Finney, Nick (Lupita) Finney and Katie Brittain; great-grandchild­ren, Amos Brittain, Ellie Brittain and Isabella Finney; several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Visitation: Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 5-8 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel.

Funeral service: Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. at McFarland United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Grogg and Rev. Ginger Isom officiatin­g.

Burial: Chattanoog­a National Cemetery.

Buddie Ted Duke, 86 Chickamaug­a

Buddie Ted Duke, of Chickamaug­a, Ga., passed away Friday, Nov. 11, 2016. He was 86.

Mr. Duke lived most of his life in the north Georgia area where he was of the Baptist faith.

He worked as a carpenter for over 60 years in the Chattanoog­a area and was a lifetime member of the Carpenters Local Union #74.

He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War having received several medals and accommodat­ions.

He dearly loved his family and his four-legged family, Tippy, Charlie Brown, Buster and Cool Breeze. During Mr. Dukes younger years he enjoyed rabbit hunting with his beagles. He was a good hearted man who will be missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Gross Duke; stepsons, Jimmie and Boonie Gross; parents, Jack Monroe and Dollie Duke and sister, Betty Jo Fairchild.

Survivors include: His sister, Mary Ransom; daughter-in-law, Elouise Gross; four grandchild­ren; several greatgrand­children; greatniece, Amber (Fred) Petts and great-nephews, Shane and Tommy Ransom.

Visitation: Sunday, Nov. 13, from 4-6 p.m. and Monday from 10-11 a.m. at the South Crest Chapel.

Graveside service: Monday, Nov. 14, at 11:30 a.m. at the Tenn.-Ga. Memorial Park.

Elmer Glenn Tucker Jr., 81 Rossville

Elmer Glenn Tucker Jr., of Rossville, Ga., passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, in a local hospital. He was 81.

Mr. Tucker was a retired truck driver for DuPont and was a member of the Teamsters Local #515.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served during the Korean Conflict and loved working in his yard, gardening, cookouts and spending time with his family. His love for his grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren was unconditio­nal.

Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Hazel Tucker and his loving wife, Virginia Jo Tucker.

Survivors include: His children, Tony Tucker of Pensacola, Fla., Tammy (Dennis) Tucker-Gant of Chickamaug­a, Ga., and Terri (Donnie) Lynch of Rossville; grandchild­ren, Michael (Tracy) Tucker, Kristy (Jason) Detty, Sandy Rapier, Steve (Melissa) Brown, Matt (Kristin) Lynch, Brandon (Amber) Lynch and Joey (Morgan) Lynch; 17 great-grandchild­ren; 12 brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews.

James Harold Pitner Jr., 86 Chattanoog­a

James Harold Pitner Jr., of Chattanoog­a, Tenn., went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, Nov. 11, 2016. He was 86.

He was born and raised in Chattanoog­a to the late James and Ozella Pitner Sr. and was a member of Northside Presbyteri­an Church.

He was an Air Force veteran serving his country in the Korean Conflict and retired from Copy Consultant as accounting controller in 1995.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfathe­r and great- grandfathe­r that will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Christina Mae Pitner; son, James H. Pitner III and one grandson, Floyd H.D. Pitner.

Survivors include: His children and spouses, Julia Mae Pitner of Clarksvill­e, Tenn., John (Kathi) Pitner of Fairview, Ga., and Jennifer and Phil Middleton of Hixson, Tenn.; sister, Joan Ozella Lee of Chattanoog­a; eight grandchild­ren; seven great-grandchild­ren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Visitation: Monday, Nov. 14, after 3 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home and Tuesday following the service in the centennial room at the church.

Rev. W.L. Galloway, 84 Ringgold

Rev. W.L. “Dub” Galloway, of Ringgold, Ga., went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016. He was 84.

He was born in Alabama to the late Thomas and Nora Lindsey Galloway, but lived most of his life in the North Georgia area.

He was pastor of Old Fort Baptist Church for the last 25 years and devoted his life to his family and the church. He was always putting others’ needs before his own and was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfathe­r and great- grandfathe­r that will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Harold Galloway.

Survivors include: His loving wife of more than 65 years, Jo Alice Galloway of Ringgold, Ga.; sons, David (Kim) Galloway and Dan (Kathy) Galloway all of Rock Spring, Ga.; sisters, Bobbie (John) Compton of Kensington, Ga. and Rhonda (Gary) Jenkins of Ringgold, Ga.; five grandchild­ren, Christy Galloway, Chris Galloway, Allison Keith, Travis Galloway and Erica Galloway; greatgrand­children, Tristen Young, Chloé Keith and Justin Galloway; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Visitation: Monday, Nov. 14, after 4 p.m. at the funeral home and the body will lie-in-state on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Nadine Carlock Pursley, of Ringgold, Ga., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016. She was 87.

She was born to the late Thomas E. and Gladys Hullender Carlock in Flint, Mich., has been a long time resident of Ringgold and was a member of Boynton Baptist Church.
