Ramblers win back-to-back road games to start 2-0

Sophomore Alex Kelehear and Andrew Pendergras­s both earned Walker County Dream Team first team status last season and this past weekend, they picked up right where they left off some nine months ago.

Kelehear had 16 points and Pendergras­s 14 on Friday as the LaFayette Ramblers raised the curtain on the 2016-2017 season by running past LFO, 58-37, in a nonregion game in Fort Oglethorpe.

Kelehear had five steals, four assists and three 3-pointers in the rout, while Pendergras­s knocked down two from behind the arc, added seven rebounds and blocked four shots.

Dee Southern and Austin Shropshire each had six points in the win.

The Ramblers made it two victories in two nights after coasting to an easy win at Armuchee on Saturday night.

LaFayette scored 16 points in the first quarter and increased its scoring in each of the next three periods that followed.

Kelehear had 19 points and seven assists. He connected on five 3-pointers, including three in the opening stanza. Pendergras­s went for 14 points, including three treys, and eight rebounds.

Southern added 13 points, 11 rebounds and three steals, while Tyrese Hunter had 12 points, five assists and four steals. Jon Morgan and Payton Teems had nine points each. Teems’ points came on three fourth-quarter 3-pointers.

LaFayette (2-0) will take the court again on Wednesday against Coahulla Creek in the Ridgeland Thanksgivi­ng Classic. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. The Ramblers will finish play in the Classic on Friday against Ringgold at 7 p.m.

LFO girls 64, LaFayette 19

In Friday night’s first game, LFO forced numerous turnovers and coasted to a win over the Lady Ramblers.

Skylar Oxford went for five points, while Madison Harris, Jada Allmon and Hannah Blevins each finished with four.

North Cobb Christian girls 39, LaFayette 32

At the Gordon Central Lady Warrior Invitation­al, LaFayette dropped their opening round game on Saturday.

The Lady Ramblers were down 12 to start the fourth quarter, cut the Lady Eagles’ lead down to five, but got no closer.

Megan Wilson had nine points pace LaFayette, followed by Harris with eight, Nicky Yancy with five, Skylar Oxford with four and Emily Redden and Deshia Dew with three each.

LaFayette (0-2) was scheduled to play in a consolatio­n bracket game on Monday against Temple. Results were not available as of press time. The tournament will conclude on Tuesday.
