Jared Willerson will assist McElhaney from the bench. Willerson previously coached a number of the players on this year’s roster as a former girls’ head coach at Gordon Lee Middle School.

The non-region slate will again be tough with the likes of Dade County, Coahulla Creek, LaFayette and Heritage. The Lady Trojans will also play in a Christmas tournament in Fannin County. In addition to Darlington, the subregion schedule will also home-and-home series with Bowdon, Christian Heritage, Excel Christian, Mt. Zion, North Cobb Christian and Trion.

“We’ve just got to play the brand of basketball that we know how to play,” said McElhaney when asked about the key to the season. “We have to control the ball, get up and down the floor and not turn it over. We have the potential. We have girls that can score, but at the same time, we have to take care of the ball.

“We’re undersized, so have to be fast and make other teams guard us in the open floor. If we can do that, we believe we can play with people.”
