Glenda Ruggs Priest, 83, Indian Spring, Ala.

Glenda Ruggs Priest passed away Monday, December 12, 2016 at her home in Indian Springs, Alabama. She was 83.

Glenda was born on February 22, 1933 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to John and Leona Ruggs. In 1953 Glenda married Dan Priest and they resided in LaFayette, Georgia for 56 years. The last several years of her life they lived in Indian Springs, Alabama to be close to their daughter and sonin-law.

Glenda earned a B.S. in Business Education from Jacksonvil­le State University, a M.S. in Special Education from Peabody College, and continued her career teaching Hospital and Homebound students in grades 1 – 12 for most of her 35 years of teaching in the Walker County School System.

Glenda’s hobbies were: filling her yard with flowers, helping her husband on their farm, bargain hunting at flea markets, investing in the stock market, and spending time with her family.

Glenda is survived by her husband of 63 years, Daniel Keith Priest; daughter Sandra (Bryan) Luquire of Indian Springs, AL,; 3 grandsons, Adam (Valerie) Luquire of Knoxville, TN, Justin Luquire of Charlotte, NC, and Derek Luquire of Birmingham, AL. She is also survived by sister-in-law Charlotte Ruggs, sister-in-law Anne Priest, brotherin-law Sid (Imogene) Priest, sister-in-law Janet Deaton, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her adoptive parents, Joe and Lillian Ruggs; and 3 brothers, Jack, Harold and Max Ruggs.

Celebratio­n of Life Service was held at First United Methodist Church of LaFayette, Georgia, on Saturday, December 17, at 11 a.m. The family received friends at WallisWilb­anks Funeral Home on Friday, December 16, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A private graveside service for the family was held following the service.

Pallbearer­s: Derek Luquire, Justin Luquire, Adam Luquire, Bob Hucke, Leon Walker, and Ken White.

Honorary Pallbearer­s: Albert Ellis, Ronald Harrison, James Ingram, Chip Wheeler, and the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class.
