Jane Elizabeth Johnson Amos Land, 62, LaFayette

Jane Elizabeth Johnson Amos Land, of Lafayette, Ga., passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2017. She was 62.

A lifelong resident of Ringgold, she was a lifetime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and a former employee of Salem Carpet.

She is preceded in death by father, J.B. Johnson; mother, Elizabeth Ellis Williams; sister, Rebecca Roper; grandparen­ts, Arthur and Frankie Ellis.

Survivors include: Her husband, Roger Land of Lafayette, Ga.; three children, Jonathan (Nicole Dunn) Amos of Lafayette, Ga., Ashley (John) Dillard, of Ringgold, Ga., Angie (John) Gracan of Dixon, Tenn.; two sisters, Sue Norris, of Ringgold, Ga., Debra (Dewayne McCallie) Richards of Ringgold, Ga.; three brothers, Wayne (Ray) Green of Fort Myers, Fla., Andy (Teresa) Johnson of Ringgold, Ga., Ricky Johnson of Ringgold, Ga.; six grandchild­ren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Tuesday, Jan. 10, from 3-8 p.m. and Wednesday, from 9 a.m. until funeral time at the funeral home.

Funeral Service: Wednesday Jan. 11, at noon in the funeral home chapel with Reverend John Mozingo officiatin­g.

Burial: Catoosa Memorial Gardens.

Alma Louise Hughes, 87, Springfiel­d, Tenn.

Alma Louise Hughes, of Springfiel­d, Tenn. and formerly of LaFayette, Ga., died Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at the Waters of Robertson. She was 87.

Mrs. Hughes was born July 20, 1929, in LaFayette, Ga., to the late Dewy Rufus and Ella Wilson Coker.

Her husband, Fay Hughes; son, Jerry Hughes; greatgrand­son, Raylan Boone Stevens; brothers, Charles and Roy Coker and sister, Tootsie Turner also preceded her in death. Louise was a member of First Baptist Church O’Fallon.

She was a retired clerk, having worked in the dry cleaning industry but her “real” job was a Pastor’s wife.

Mrs. Hughes was a gifted seamstress and loved working in the yard and gardening.

Survivors include: Her daughters, Sheila Hughes (Ron) Stevens of Springfiel­d, Tenn., Teena Hughes Estrada of Fairview Heights, Ill.; brother, Frank Coker; sisters, Mary “Sue” Key, Brenda Wrape, Royce Matthews; grandchild­ren, Chris (fiancé’ Alyssa McLane) Stevens, Kevin Stevens, Daniel Estrada, Trisha (Aaron) McKerrache­r, JoeEric Estrada, Celeste Estrada, Melody White, Michael Hughes and Jason Hughes; three greatgrand­children.

Funeral service: Thursday, Jan. 12, at 1 p.m.

Burial: LaFayette City Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearer­s.

Sarah Juanita Butner Wallace, 89, Chickamaug­a

Sarah Juanita Butner Wallace, of Chickamaug­a, Ga., passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2017. She was 89.

She was born in Bell Buckle, Tenn., to the late John William and Jessie Jimmie Bush Butner. She resided her childhood in the Manchester, Tenn. area and spent the last 60 years in the Northwest Georgia area.

She was a faithful member of Chickamaug­a Church of Christ, where she enjoyed serving others.

She worked at DuPont in Chattanoog­a, Tenn. and also helped her husband at their family business, Battlefiel­d Frame Shop in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.

She enjoyed gardening, taking walks and spending time with her family.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmothe­r who will be greatly missed.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Carl Robert Wallace; sisters, Bonnie Butner, Laura Estelle Fetzer and Clyda Marie Pugh; brothers, Hoyt Ray Butner and Henry Clay Butner.

Survivors include: Her children, Pamela (Terry L.) Tennant, David C. George Wallace and Holly (Nootie) Abbott all of Chickamaug­a, Ga.; sisters, Lurlie Mae Gaston of Dallas, Texas, Shirley Christine Pless of Ringgold, Ga.; eight grandchild­ren; eight great-grandchild­ren; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Thursday from 4-6 p.m. at Chickamaug­a Church of Christ with the service to follow at 6 p.m. with Minister Shane Robinson officiatin­g.

Burial: Chattanoog­a National Cemetery.

Jerry Lee Byrd, 55, Ringgold

Jerry Lee Byrd, of Ringgold, Ga., passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017. He was 55.

A lifelong resident of the Ringgold area, he was a former employee of Candlewick Yarns.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Sidney and Rosa Lee Hullender Byrd; two brothers, Gary and Ronnie Byrd.

Survivors include: Sister, Sara Jo Jody (Charles) Collins of Ringgold, Ga.; brother, Donald Byrd of Ringgold, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.

Viola Manning Smith, age 73 of Villanow passed away Monday, January 09, 2017.

She was a member of the Concord Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Smith; her parents, Mitchell and Eula Mae Manning; brother, Clarence William Manning.

Survived by her son, Clint Smith of Villanow; sister, Clarissa “Chris” (William) Casteel, of Calhoun, Tenn; brothers, Bruce (Jennifer) Manning, of Nicholasvi­lle, Ky., Charlie Manning, of Muscle Shoales, Ala., and Arvin “Jerry” (Jean) Manning of Dalton; granddaugh­ter, Lilan Bowling of Villanow; grandsons, Michael Smith, and Jacob (Jessica) Smith; great granddaugh­ter, Kiersten Smith; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside service at East Armuchee Baptist Church Cemetery Saturday, January 14th at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Millican officiatin­g.

Faye Mcrae Little, age 81, of Red Bank passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017.

Faye was born and raised in LaFayette, but lived and worked in Nashville for many years in the restaurant industry.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Little; sons, Philip Lamar Little and Richard “Pete” McRae Little; grandson, Benjamin Jordan; parents, Hobson “Hobo” McRae and Mary Burgess McRae; and brother, Jack McRae.

Survivors are daughters, Deborah (Jeffrey) Powell of Hixson, TN and Robin Little of Nashville; son, Paul Wayne (Tonda) Little of Chapmansbo­ro, TN; sisters, Janie Thompson, Darlene (Steve) Hill, and Tammie (Glenn) Chance all of LaFayette, Carolyn (Larry) Alexander of Seale, AL, and Mary (Danny) Wooten of Chickamaug­a; brothers, Arlin “Mac” (Jean) McRae of Nashville and Raymond (Gail) McRae of Center Post; grandchild­ren, Stephanie Watson, Hong Kong, China, Phillip Little and Misty Norvell; great grandchild­ren, Drew Watson and Shelby Steinhurst; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 11 from the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Sparks; son, Willis Sparks; parents, Frank White and Amanda Arnold White; sisters, Edna Watkins, Lillie Parker and Opal Dorsey; brothers, Harvey White, Ray White and Cecil White.

Survivors are daughter, Carolyn Templeton of Fort Oglethorpe; son, Joel (Brenda) Sparks of Trenton; sister, Rachel (Raymond) Southerlan­d of LaFayette; four grandchild­ren; 11 great grandchild­ren; 4 greatgreat grandchild­ren; and several nieces and nephews.

Barbara Jean Hall Garrett, age 83, of LaFayette passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Garrett; daughter, Reta Peace; grandson, Jacob Peace; parents, Milbrey Hall and Alva Lee Hall; sister and brother-inlaw, Jenny and Jerry Schley.

Survivors are sons, Benny (Carole) Garrett, Charles (Melanie) Garrett, Gene (Stacey) Garrett, Ray (Leona) Garrett, and Stephen (Brandy) Garrett; daughter, Alvie (Kevin) Murray; brother, Wallace (Nancy) Hall; sister, Laverne (Dick) Banks; 13 grandchild­ren, 16 great grandchild­ren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel Tuesday, January 10 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Damon Perry and Rev. Oscar Stapp officiatin­g.

Norvelle Taylor Copeland, age 97, of LaFayette passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Belmont Village in Suwanee, Georgia.

She was a member of LaFayette First Baptist Church for 50-plus years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Andrew Copeland; parents, Enoch Taylor and Onie Persons Taylor; sisters, Charla Mae, Ann Ruth and Cecil Trammell.

Survivors are daughter, Alice (Ken) Romano; sons, Walter (Louanne) Copeland, Tommy (Angela) Copeland and Roy (Phyllis) Copeland; 11 grandchild­ren; six great grandchild­ren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the LaFayette First Baptist Church Sunday, January 8

at 3 p.m. with Dr. Warren Moorhead officiatin­g.

Visitation will be held at the church from 1 p.m. until time of service.
