Oakwood Christian hoopsters continue January slate

The Oakwood Christian Lady Eagles went 2-1 last week to improve to 5-6 overall on the season, while the Eagles dropped three games to solid ball clubs and saw their record dip to 6-8 to begin the new week.

Details on the Eagles’ Monday evening game at Christ’s Legacy Academy were unavailabl­e as of press time.

The Lady Eagles got a balanced effort in the road win. Annika Green had 10 points, 16 rebounds and four steals, while Kylie Hall finished with 10 points and three blocks.

Tori Hall had eight points, 11 rebounds and five steals. Madi Phillips finished with eight points and three steals, while Mary Catherine Ownby filled up her stat sheet with four points, seven boards, three blocks and a pair of steals. scored two points and collected six steals.

Maryville Christian boys 81, Oakwood 56

Matthew McDonough had 22 points, but it wasn’t enough to get the Eagles the win against the Southern Christian Athletic Associatio­n stalwarts.

Woody Hass picked up six points, while Garrison Baggett, Zack Cohen, Phillips Davis, Andrew Phillips, Cory Taylor and Tyler Epperson all had four points.

Chatt. Patriots 65, Oakwood Christian 52

The Eagles trailed 39-26 at halftime and failed to make up the deficit in the second half.

McDonough had 28 points in the loss, followed by Cohen with eight and Hass with seven. D.J. Terry dropped in three points, while Baggett, Epperson and Taylor had two points each.

TCPS boys 46, Oakwood Christian 33

The Hawks, one of the league’s top teams, pulled away for good in the final stages of the fourth quarter and sent the Eagles back to Chickamaug­a with a loss on Friday night.

OCA trailed by just three points at halftime and were down 31-22 to start the fourth. They were able to cut into the Hawks’ lead, but the home team would take control in the final two minutes.

McDonough had a 22-point, 15-rebound double-double with two blocks and two assists.

Hass chipped in with five points and four rebounds to go with two assists and two steals.

Other contributo­rs included Baggett (2 points, 5 rebounds), John Jacob McSpadden (3 points, 2 assists, 2 steals) and Epperson (1 point, 3 rebounds).
