Laverne Winfred Legere, 80, Rossville

Laverne Winfred Legere, 80, of Rossville, GA., passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017. She was formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y. moving to this area in 1980.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Richard and Alice Barnaby; husband of 63 years, Charles J. Legere; son, James Legere; daughter, Marion Legere; sister, Alice Wisniewski; brother, Jimmy Barnaby.

She is survived by her children, Sonny (Barbara) Legere, Charlene (Thomas) Hynes, of Levittown, N.Y., Maurice (Denise) Legere, of Staten Island, N.Y., Alice (Bobby) Garcia, of Rossville, Nicole (Nathan) LegereWell­s, of Ringgold; seven grandchild­ren; seven great grandchild­ren; grand puppy Honey Girl; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21st at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Chaplain Pat Davis officiatin­g. Interment will be in Crest Lawn Cemetery, Noble, GA.

Family will receive friends on Friday, Jan. 20th from 2-8 p.m. and on Saturday up to the hour of service at the funeral home.

James Carrel Dodson Sr., 55, East Ridge

James Carrel Dodson Sr., 55 of East Ridge, TN passed away Monday, January 16, 2017.

He was a resident of the Chattanoog­a area and was of the Baptist faith. He was a graduate of East Ridge High School Class of 79 and then went on to get his HVAC Certificat­ion from Chattanoog­a State. He was a Maintenanc­e Engineer for many years and enjoyed fishing. James took pride in his work and if it was broke James could fix it. He was a loving and devoted son, father and grandfathe­r who

will be truly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Dodson; brother, Donald Wayne Dodson and grandparen­ts, Walter & Ulah Snodgrass Dodson and Houston & Grace Payne Walker.

Survivors include his mother, Catherine Dodson of East Ridge, TN; children, James Carrel Dodson, Jr. and Rebekah Denham both of Chattanoog­a, TN and Brittany Pominski of Lebanon, TN; brother, Dennis Dodson of East Ridge, TN; sister, Deborah Dodson Brown of Mt. Pleasant, TN; 10 grandchild­ren and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family & friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2017 in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Rev. Dennis Eugene Dodson, Jr. officiatin­g. Burial will follow in the Forest Hills Cemetery. Raymond Dennis Ells, 56, Fort Oglethorpe

Raymond Dennis Ells, 56 of Fort Oglethorpe, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017. He was of the Baptist Faith. Raymond was a loving father as well as an amazing singer-songwriter and storytelle­r. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and loved his long career as a truck driver. He loved life and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Ann Ells.

Raymond is survived by his daughter, Hannah Ells; wife, Wendi Ells both of Fort Oglethorpe; father, Kenneth Ells;

sisters and brothers, Kim Ells, Clifford (Vickie) Ells, Beth (Paul) Burket, Alberta George, Mark (Kristie) Ells all of Greenville, SC, Mary (Chuck) Yates of Simpsonvil­le, SC; special friend, Marlene Wasness of Boiling Spring; & several nieces & nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, in the chapel. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

John William Buster Griffith, 84, Rossville

John William Buster Griffith, 84, of Rossville, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017 in a local hospital.

Buster had been a resident of the Fairview Community for over 57 years and was a former member of Fairview Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, outreach leader and a Godly mentor to many. With a strong passion for his family and lost souls, Mr. Griffith touched many lives from coaching children to helping his neighbor. He was currently attending Silverdale Baptist Church, was retired from CSX Railroad with 40 years of service as a switchman, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Buster had a passion for gardening and fishing and was preceded in death by his parents, Willis & Ruby Griffith, brother, Carl Griffith, and sisters, Lucille Griffith & Bobbie Harp.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Patsy Smith Griffith; son, Larry (Janice) Griffith; daughters, Teena (Ric) Carroll, & Melissa (Lee) Tinker; grandchild­ren, Dayley, Spencer, Brandon, Erica, & Lauren; sisters, Carolyn Baswell & Barbara Jordan.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Rev. Joe Dodd officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with military honors.

James Michael Tilley, 58, East Ridge

James Michael Tilley, 58, of East Ridge passed away in hospice care on January 14, 2017.

He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Tilley.

Survivors include mother, Aris Vernell Tilley, brother, John (Marilyn) Tilley, sons, Michael and Christophe­r Tilley and granddaugh­ter, Megan Marie Tilley.

No services will be held.

James Allen Curtis, 89, Chattanoog­a

James Allen Curtis, 89, of Chattanoog­a, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in Memphis, Tennessee.

Mr. Curtis was a native of Marion County, Tennessee but had lived the greater part of his life in Chattanoog­a. He was a retired C.P.A., was a longtime member of First Lutheran ChurchChat­tanooga, and was a veteran of both the U.S. Army/Air Force. Mr. Curtis was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbye L. Curtis, sons Major Robert Curtis & Michael Curtis, parents, Charles & Nancy Whited Curtis, brothers, Roy, Glenn, Lee, Mitchell, Paul, John, Herbert, and

Joe Curtis, and sisters, Mildred Albea, Myrna Boone, & Kathryn Grant.

Survivors include his daughter, Karen L. Curtis, M.D. of Memphis, TN; four grandchild­renMichael, Matthew, Sarah, and Shannon Curtis, a special cousin Carita Washabaugh, and several nieces & nephews.

The family would especially like to acknowledg­e Susan and Charlie Coates, Robin Crager, and Deolia Bell, who provided such valuable assistance in James’ later years.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 12:00 noon at Lakewood Memory Gardens, South with Pastor Gilbert H. Pingel officiatin­g.

David Mays, 65, Chattanoog­a

David Mays, 65, of Chattanoog­a, passed away on Tuesday, January 17 in a local hospital.

David was a native and lifelong resident of Chattanoog­a and was employed by Temple Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Buck Mays & Lois Howard Mays, and brother,

Tommy Mays.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Mays; daughters, Kim Martin & Carey Ann Mays; sons, Brian (Sherri) Mays & Jimmy Mays; step-son, Daniel Boss; grandchild­ren, Brittney Martin, Cody Martin, Zach McClendon, Courtney McClendon, Dakota Mays, Jathan Mays, Adison Nabors, Ashley Boss, Gavin Boss and Saylor Boss; sisters, Frances Sharp, Kathy Burnette, & Tammy Stewart; several greatgrand­children, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the South Crest Chapel.
