Oakwood Christian boys split four most recent games

The Oakwood Christian Eagles trailed by eight points at halftime and fell behind by as many as 14 points in the second half, but staged a huge second-half rally to win 68-62 at Christ’s Legacy Academy last Monday night.

The game was a makeup for a earlier scheduled game that was postponed by inclement weather.

Oakwood was down 43-29 after CLA opened the third quarter on a 10-4 run, but the Eagles would finally get going offensivel­y to storm back for the victory.

Matthew McDonough had a monster game with 38 points and seven rebounds. Zack Cohen aided the cause with 10 points, five rebounds and a steal, while Woody Hass dropped in eight points and collected three assists and a steal.

Other key contributo­rs included John Jacob McSpadden (6 points, 4 assists), D.J. Terry (3 points, 3 assists), Phillip Davis (2 rebounds) and Garrison Baggett (1 point, 6 assists, 3 rebounds).

Mountain View Christian boys 51, Oakwood Christian 45

A tight game throughout saw the Eagles trail 22-21 at halftime last Tuesday. They forged a 34-33 lead by the end of the third quarter, but Mountain View would hit four 3-pointers late in the game to tip the outcome in their favor.

McDonough has 26 points, 15 rebounds and a block, while McSpadden finished with nine points, three assists and two boards. Other contributo­rs included Hass (3 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists), Baggett (2 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists), Terry (3 points) and Cohen (2 points).

Oakwood Christian boys 49, Rhea County Academy 46

The Eagles trailed 18-13 at halftime and 2822 at the end of the third quarter on Thursday, but a wild finish at the end of regulation would send the game to overtime where the home team emerged victorious.

The Warriors scored with four second left to take a one-point lead. The Eagles turned to McDonough, their leading scorer, for the final shot and the senior was fouled with a second left on the clock. McDonough, however, was able to make 1-of-2 shots to send the game to overtime.

Oakwood would take care of business in the bonus four-minute period to score the win.

Terry hit four 3-pointers and paced the Eagles with 16 points on the night, while McDonough was held to just 11 points, but grabbed 16 rebounds and blocked five shots.

McSpadden had eight points and three rebounds. Cohen finished with six points and three rebounds, while Baggett added four points, six boards and three steals. Davis chipped in with three rebounds and three assists and J.J. Lanham had two big baskets in the fourth quarter to account for his four points.

Fairview Christian boys 52, Oakwood Christian 33

Head coach Wayne McDonough rested

several starters as the Eagles played their fourth game in five nights on Friday in Athens, Tenn.

Oakwood trailed by just three points at intermissi­on, but “ran out of gas” in the second half.

Cory Taylor led the way with seven points, followed by Terry with six, McDonough with five and Baggett and Davis with four each. McSpadden (3 points), Trevor Hobbs (2 points) and Tyler Epperson (2 points) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles (8-10 overall).

OCA is slated to host Dogwood Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, followed by a game at Calvary Christian at 6 p.m. on Thursday. They will be back at home for a 7 p.m. game on Monday against Liberty Christian.
