Middle School Girls’ Basketball: CVMS scores win over rival Rossville

The Chattanoog­a Valley Lady Eagles trailed by one at the end of the first quarter last Tuesday, but rallied to gain the lead by halftime before pulling away in the second half to beat rival Rossville, 27-9, in Rossville.

The Lady Bulldogs led 4-3 after the opening quarter and the score would remained tied, 5-5, until the 2:20 mark of the second quarter.

That’s when Emma McGraw would hit the first of three breakaway lay-ups over the remainder of the half - the last coming with 3.5 seconds left - to stake the Lady Eagles to an 11-5 lead at intermissi­on.

Rossville would cut the gap down to four early in the third quarter, but Chattanoog­a Valley would push the lead back out to eight, 17-9, by the end of the period. The Lady Eagles would control the action in the final seven minutes, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs, 10-0, to seal the victory.

McGraw led all scorers with nine points for the Valley. Macie Boren added six and Myah Russell finished with four, while four other Lady Eagles added two points apiece.

Adarah Burks had four points for Rossville. MaKayla Cope and Allyson Morris each finished with two and Mackensie Miller added one. Antwanasha Brewer led Rossville with seven rebounds.

Dade County girls 30, Gordon Lee 17

The Lady Trojans led 4-2 after a lowscoring first quarter, but managed just two points in both the second and fourth quarters as they dropped the NGAC contest this past Tuesday.

Emma Minghini had six points in the loss, followed by Emoree Rogers with five, Addison Sturdivant with four and Ashlyn Schmidt with two.

Gordon Lee girls 42, Rossville 11

The Lady Trojans outscored the Lady Bulldogs 15-1 in the second quarter en route to the victory on Thursday.

Minghini had nine points for Gordon Lee, followed by eight each from Sturdivant, Rogers and Maddison Farrow.

Emalee Harris paced Rossville with four points.

Saddle Ridge girls 36, Lakeview 10

The Lady Mustangs got back on track with a home win over Lakeview this past Tuesday.

Defense was the key for the Navy-and-Red as they allowed the Lady Warriors just one lone point in the opening half.

LaTyah Barber recorded a doubledoub­le with 13 points and 10 steals to go with four rebounds and one blocked shots. Mykeria Johnson drained a pair of 3-pointers and finished with eight points and six boards, while Haley Stahl collected four points, five rebounds and two blocks.

Lexi Baker finished with four points and a steal. Madi Ashley had a pair of points and grabbed four rebounds, while Gracie Hamilton and Ashlyn Jenkins each added two points. Sam Cramer, Imani Cook, Anna Grace Gilreath and Abby Sansing were all defensive standouts, according to head coach Daniel Scoggins.

Trion girls 44, Saddle Ridge 40

The Lady Mustangs found their way back from an early hole to tie the game late. However, the Lady Bulldogs would hit some key free throws late to ice the victory.

Barber kept up her stellar play with another doubledoub­le, dropping in 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to go with eight steals and a blocked shot.

Hamilton had a solid evening with 11 points a steal. Johnson added seven points, nine boards and four steals. Cramer and Ashley had two points apiece, while Jenkins collected nine rebounds and shined on defense.

Trion girls 36, LaFayette 23

Aubrey Blankenshi­p led the Lady Ramblers with 15 points in last Tuesday’s loss, followed by Savanna Hall with four and Kensley Wooten and Kylie Grant with two each.
