Teresa Ann Ault Black, 50, Ringgold

Teresa Ann Ault Black, of Ringgold, Ga., passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at her residence. She was 50.

A lifelong resident of the North Georgia area, she was an employee of Shaw Industries where she has worked for 17 years, and attended Ringgold United Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by her son, Brandon Black and niece, April McMillan.

Survivors include: Her mother, Ima Jean Smithey Ault of Dalton, Ga.; Larry C. Black of Ringgold, Ga.; son, Bo Clifton Black of Ringgold, Ga.; step-daughter, Kelli Michelle Black of Houston, Texas; sister, Pam (Stephen Casterline) McMillan of Dalton, Ga.; brother, Howard Lane Ault of Ringgold, Ga.; niece, Ashley Christian; nephew, Jeremy (Brittany) McMillan; 2 great-nieces and 1 great-nephew.

Visitation: Friday, Jan. 27, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral service: Saturday Jan. 28, 10 a.m. at the Ringgold United Methodist Church with Pastor Ben Cathey, Bro. Bobby Fleck and Pastor Joe Brown officiatin­g. She will lie-in-state from 9 a.m. until funeral time Saturday at the church.

Burial: Anderson Memorial Gardens.

Tanna Curtis, 73, Chickamaug­a

Tanna Curtis, 73, of Chickamaug­a, Ga., passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017. She was 73.

She loved the outdoors, taking walks and was full of humor. She was a loving mother and grandmothe­r.

Tanna was preceded in death by her husband, Henry “Ed” Curtis; parents, Luther Sr. and Hazel Jones; brother, Luther Jones Jr.; son-in-law, Rickie Hood.

Survivors include: Her children, Susie Hood, Terry Curtis, Kim Walden, Becky Casey, Misty (Lonnie) Wimpy, Cathy (Danny) Frady; 12 grandchild­ren; eight great-grandchild­ren; two nephews.

Visitation: Sunday, Jan. 22, from 3-8 p.m. and on Monday until funeral hour at the funeral home.

Funeral service: Monday, Jan. 23, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Sarah Thomas Gordon, 59, Chattanoog­a

Sarah Thomas Gordon, of Chattanoog­a, Tenn., passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, in a local hospital. She was 59.

Sarah was employed with Commercial Metals with 20 years of service and was of the Church of Christ faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W.L. and Olene Thomas.

Survivors include: Her husband of 40 years, Larry Gordon; son, Aaron Gordon; grandchild, Tyler Gordon; brother, George Thomas; sister, Jackie LaTellier.

Larry Pence, 61, LaFayette

Larry Pence, of LaFayette, Ga., passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, in a local hospital. He was 61.

He was born in LaFayette, Ga., to the late Robert C. and Dessie Wallin Pence. He was a lifelong resident of LaFayette and was of the Church of God faith.

He was a former employee of Luau Pools in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. and was a very skilled mechanic.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and working on old cars.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Owensby; brothers, Leon, Wayne and Jerry Pence.

Survivors include: His sister, Patricia Ann Pence of LaFayette, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Tuesday, Jan. 24, from 6-9 p.m. and Wednesday after 11 a.m. until the service.

Funeral service: Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 5 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Inez Greene Veal, 88, Chattanoog­a

Inez Greene Veal, of Chattanoog­a, Tenn., passed away peacefully in the early hours of Jan. 20, 2017. She was 88.

Inez was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Carl Mark Veal Jr.; her parents, Leila and Lother Greene; her brother, Fred Greene; her sisters, Lois Pauline Greene, Willene Stiefel, Louise Allen and Wynell “Peanut” Gann and her son-in-law, Joseph Charles Hurt Jr.

Survivors include: Her daughter, Kay Hurt; son, John (Andee) Veal; grandchild­ren, Jennifer Hurt Dunleavy, Sarah Veal and Josh Veal; great-grandson, Jacob Dunleavy; sisters, her beloved twin, Ione Thornberry, and adored youngest sister, Joan Blevins; many nieces and nephews.

Charles Poteet, of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017. He was 58.

A lifelong resident of the North Ga. area, he attended Covenant Life Church in Chickamaug­a, Ga.

He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Poteet; sister, Cindy Smith; maternal and paternal grandparen­ts.

Survivors include: His mother, Wanda Dale Smith Poteet of Centre, Ala.; sister, Tonya (David) Chastain of Chickamaug­a, Ga.; two nephews, Colt (Hannah) Chastain and Lucas Chastain; niece, Sarah Shrader; greatniece­s, Jessie Tolbert, Jamie Tolbert, Everly Chastain.

Shirley Ann Farmer, of Ringgold, Ga., passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017. She was 54.

A native of Atlanta, Ga., she has lived in the North Ga. area for the past 20 years and was a member of Rock Bridge Community Church Ringgold Campus.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Raybon Howard Farmer and Mary Frances Clemmons Watts and brother, James Farmer.

Survivors include: Four children, David (Shannon) Farmer of Crawford, Tenn., Michael (Latasha) Weaver of Flintstone, Ga., Billy Joe (Veallie) Weaver of Newnan, Ga. and Cherity Hope Farmer of Ringgold, Ga.; two sisters, Vickey Parson of Ringgold, Ga. and Onnie Sams of Ringgold, Ga.; two brothers, Tony Watts of Rossville, Ga. and Donald Farmer of Ringgold, Ga.; step brother, Joey Messer of McDonough, Ga.; 12 grandchild­ren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Charlotte Steginus Gutsmann, 86, Ringgold

Charlotte Steginus Gutsmann, 86, of Ringgold, Ga., passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2017. She was 86.

A native of Klein Lunau, Poland, she has lived in the Ringgold area for the past three years and is formerly of Lawrencevi­lle, Ga. where they were members of the Lawrencevi­lle Church of God.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Hulda Kroll Steginus; two sisters, Irmgard and Annie and brother, Willi.

Survivors include: Her husband of 65 years, Fritz Hermann Gutsmann; three children, Karen, Richard and Karl; three sisters, Lucie, Gisela and Helga; two grandchild­ren; several nieces and nephews.

MaryAnn Hauck Bodine, 90, Chattanoog­a

MaryAnn Hauck Bodine, 90, of Chattanoog­a, Tenn., died Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, in a local hospital. She was 90.

She was a native of Samaria, Ind. and was the widow of the late George C. Bodine Jr.

She was a wife, mother, aunt, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r; a role model for her family and friends and was known as a very gracious, loving and classy lady.

She was a member of the Pilgrim Congregati­onal United Church of Christ.

Mary Ann Bodine was a dedicated and beloved volunteer with the CHI Memorial Auxiliary for several years donating 4,559 hours of service at the Intensive Care Unit Informatio­n Desk.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Virginia Lee, Frances Guerin, Howard Green and Sally Weglarz.

Survivors include: Son, Col. John D. (Kris) Hauck Jr., USAF (Ret), Ennis, Mont. and two daughters, Diana (W. Wright) Johnston, Ringgold and Karen Tanner (Kenneth) Boles, Sale Creek, Tenn.; grandchild­ren, Patrick (Amanda) Johnston, Brian (Elizabeth) Hauck, Lauren (Stan) Lin, Derek (Angel) Tanner and Scott (Kara DeRoche) Tanner and nine greatgrand­children and numerous nieces and nephews.

Margaret Josephine Yates Hix, 93, Ringgold

Margaret Josephine Yates Hix, of Ringgold, Ga., went home to be with the Lord Monday, Jan. 23, 2017. She was 93.

She was born in Atlanta, Ga., a daughter of the late Charles Benjamin and Vera Rebecca Gaines Yates.

Margaret attended West Georgia College and Agnes Scott College where she received her Bachelors Degree in education.

Mrs. Yates was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and had taught in the Catoosa County School System for fifteen years.

She enjoyed painting and music to express her appreciati­on for the arts and loved working in her flower garden and observing nature.

She served as a volunteer in the healthcare industry showing love and compassion to those in her care while living in Greenwood. S.C.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Hix.

Survivors include: Her loving children, Charles Bradford Brad Hix of Ringgold and Rebecca Ann Irwin Whaley of Cleveland; granddaugh­ter, Anne Irwin Thomas of Ringgold and greatgrand­son, Walker Benjamin Thomas.

Visitation: Friday from 12-1:30 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.
