Ramblers eyeing 20 wins

The LaFayette Ramblers have completed their Region 6-AAAA schedule. Now all they can do is wait and see where they are seeded in next week’s region tournament.

The Orange-andBlack finished with a 9-3 region mark after collecting their final three wins last week. late.

Kelehear added eight rebounds to help the Ramblers on the glass. Tyrese Hunter racked up 11 points on the night and LaTrail McClinic and Austin Shropshire each had six, while helping to pick up the slack on the boards as Dee Southern missed the game due to illness.

LaFayette boys 71, Southeast Whitfield 54

The Ramblers led by eight at the end of the first quarter and took a 40-34 lead into the locker room at home on Friday. They added four points to their advantage after a lowscoring third period, and then dropped 23 on the Raiders in the fourth to claim the

victory.

Kelehear had 16 points, six assists and four steals in the win. McClinic finished with 13 points and Hunter added 12. Southern returned to the lineup and had 10 points and 10 boards. Jon Morgan added eight points, seven assists and three blocks, while Andrew Pendergras­s also had eight points.

LaFayette boys 79, Pickens 47

The Ramblers are one victory away from their first 20-win campaign since the 2011-2012 season after a dominant performanc­e

against the Dragons in Jasper on Saturday afternoon.

LaFayette (19-3 overall, 9-3 in Region 6-AAAA) exploded for a season-high 56 points in the opening half before cruising in the second half. Morgan had 20 points in the win. Hunter added 17, followed by Southern with 12 and McClinic with 10. The Ramblers finished the game with seven 3-pointers.

LaFayette began the week one game back of Northwest Whitfield (82), who lost at Heritage this past Friday. The Ramblers are currently a half-game clear of the third-place Generals (7-3), who will play Ridgeland twice this week to close it out.
