- By Scott Herpst

The Oakwood Christian Eagles were within striking distance of visiting Liberty Christian last Monday night, trailing by just six points, 41-35, with 2:45 left in the third quarter.

But a turnoverplagued final 10-plus minutes would spell big trouble for the Navyand-Gold, who would fall behind by as many as 20 in the final quarter before ultimately losing, 63-51.

Tied at 14-all after the first quarter, Liberty forged a 31-24 lead at the break. However, the Eagles would continue to hang around as they looked to climb back over the .500 mark for the season.

But Liberty would score the final eight points of the period and add four more to start to fourth and complete a 12-0 run before Oakwood would final get back on the board.

The visitors would boost the lead to 63-43 late before the Eagles were able to manage an all-for-naught 8-0 run of their own to end the game.

Matthew McDonough had 24 points and eight boards for the Eagles (10-11). John Jacob McSpadden finished with eight points and three steals while dishing out seven assists. Zack Cohen added six points and Garrison Baggett had five.

Uriah Young had 16 points to lead four Liberty players in double figures.
