Ramblers get ‘solid’ outing in scrimmage win over LFO

- By Scott Herpst

The LaFayette High School Ramblers got goals for four different players, including a pair of freshmen, as they claimed a 4-1 soccer scrimmage victory over visiting LFO this past Thursday.

Noah Armstrong, Chandler Green and freshmen Ethan Kennedy and Brodie Leiser all found the net for the Ramblers. Jett Harrison recorded nine saves on the night, splitting time with Beau Thrash, who collected six saves.

LaFayette head coach Casey Payne praised his defense, led by R.J. Seivers, Trey Henderson, Matthew Newsom and Ben McDaniel.

Payne called it a “solid” start to the season.

“I was pleased at how we came out focused from the beginning,” he said. “I was also proud of how we played throughout the match and how we were able to get all our guys quality minutes. I think that will pay off very soon regarding our underclassmen needing to step up. It was a good start to lead us into (this) week when we host Chattooga and Pickens.”

In the girls’ scrimmage later in the evening, Karissa Tatum returned to the pitch for LaFayette after missing last season with an injury and knocked home goal, as did Bailey Tarvin.

However, it wouldn’t be enough to best the Lady Warriors, who claimed a 5-2 win.

“(Despite) only having one substitute most of the game, the girls played very well,” Lady Ramblers head coach Whitney Brown said. “We got a beautiful assist from freshman Kailee Queen to help score the second goal.”

The Ramblers and Lady Ramblers are scheduled to open the 2017 at home against Chattooga on Tuesday. They will be back at home on Friday against Pickens in a pair of Region 6-AAAA matches.
