Lady Trojans fall in first round of 6-A tournament

- By Scott Herpst

The Gordon Lee Lady Trojans’ run in the Region 6-A tournament came to an abrupt end last week.

The Navy-andWhite were tied with Fellowship Christian, 21-21, at halftime last Tuesday at Darlington, but the Lady Paladins were able to emerge the winner by a single point, 39-38.

Cameron Swartz had 20 points for Fellowship Christian, while Sadie Schulz finished with 12 points on four 3-pointers.

Molly Thomison had 14 points for Gordon Lee (15-11), followed by Abby Dalton with 12 and Gracie O’Neal with six.

The Lady Trojans will now wait to see if their final power ranking will be high enough to make it into the 24-team Class A public school state tournament.

Gordon Lee was ranked 20th in the latest rankings, which came out on this past Monday. Those finals rankings can be appealed by the schools once they are released.

Should the current seedings hold, the Lady Trojans would travel to play at the No. 13 seed. Monday’s rankings show Wilcox County (20-6) and Wilkinson County (14-13) currently tied for 12th place overall, which Mitchell County (19-6) is ranked 14th.

The winner of the 13 vs. 20 game would play at the No. 4 seed in the second round of the postseason tournament.
