LaFayette soccer teams tumble in season-opening region matches

A young LaFayette Rambler squad was ambushed by No. 10-ranked Northwest Whitfield in Tunnel Hill last Tuesday, 10-0, in the season and Region 6-AAAA opener.

Frank Herrera and Nicolas Infante had four goals each in the victory for the Bruins, while Carlos Garcia and Roger Contreras scored one each.

Northwest girls 9, LaFayette 0

The Lady Ramblers trailed just 2-0 at halftime before the wheels fell off in the second half.

Natalie Tapia, Vanessa Lara and Leslie Cabrera had two goals each for the Lady Bruins, while Cynthia Cornell, Cynthia Paniagua and Joanna Peralta each had one goal.

Gilmer boys 2, LaFayette 1

The Ramblers made the long trip to Ellijay on Friday and returned home smarting from a region loss to Gilmer.

Austin McKin scored an unassisted goal with six minutes left in the first half. However, the Bobcats answered with 20 seconds left in first half to tie the match and added what turned out to be the game-winner in the 60th minute.

Jett Harrison had 13 saves for LaFayette (0-2, 0-2).

Gilmer girls 2, LaFayette 1

The Lady Ramblers (0-2, 0-2) got a goal from Kailee Queen off an assist from Karissa Tatum, but it would not be enough to get the win.

The Orange-andBlack will step out of region to host Chattooga in a pair of matches on Thursday, starting at 5 p.m.
