LaFayette proves to be unlucky for Model

- By Scott Herpst

Triskaidekaphobia. The fear of the number 13.

If anyone on the Model High School baseball team didn’t have it before the season started, they might just have it now.

It one of the stranger stats of the young season, the Blue Devils lost their first four games of the season and gave up exactly 13 runs in all four losses.

Their most recent loss came this past Friday night as the visiting LaFayette Ramblers scored four times in the top of the second and added five in the top of the third, en route to a 13-3 win.

Brady Anderson had another big night at the plate by going 3-for-3 with five RBIs. Jack Martin was 2-for-4 with three knocked in and Logan Teasley was 2-for-3 with two walks, two RBI and two runs scored.

Chase Elliott was 0-for-1 at the plate, but drew four walks, scored four times and picked up an RBI, while Ethan Stephenson and Mason Wilson were credited with one RBI apiece.

Stephenson got the win in relief of Teasley, who threw only the first inning. A.J. Buck and Ty Fisher also got work on the mound during the non-region game.

The Ramblers extended their winning streak to four games after a victory in the opener in Summerville early Saturday afternoon. LaFayette scored twice in the top of the first, added a solo run in the fourth and picked up their final two runs in the fifth.

Martin had a 3-for3 day with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Anderson stayed hot with a 2-for-3 outing and Stephenson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Teasley doubled and drove in a run, while John James collected an RBI.

Fisher threw six strong innings to pick up the win on the hill. The sophomore scattered nine hits and did not walk a batter. He gave up just one earned run and struck out four. Teasley pitched the seventh and fanned one

to get the save.
