Lady Panthers lose shootout with Model

Down 5-1 at halftime this past Tuesday night, the Ridgeland Lady Panthers put on a furious second-half rally, but couldn’t overcome an enormous night by Model’s Jennifer Espinoza in a high-scoring, but soggy 7-5 loss to the Lady Blue Devils in Rossville.

Espinoza scored all seven goals for Model, most coming on breakaways.

Katie Davis had a hat trick for Ridgeland. Katie Carruth netted the other two tallies with Davis assisting on one of them.

Madison Doty, Whitney Boehm and Kate Hixson were praised for their efforts. Alyssa Young had six saves for the Lady Panthers, while Morgan Crawford added five.

Ridgeland girls 4, Trion 0

After three tough losses to open the season, the Lady Panthers finally got on the winning track Thursday night, shutting out Trion.

Young went the majority of the way in net for the Lady Panthers, recording three saves to get the shutout.

Carruth scored both her goals in the opening half. Brittney Babb scored her first career goal for Ridgeland, while Doty added one on a penalty kick.

Gilmer girls 3, Ridgeland 0

The success couldn’t carry over to Friday as the Lady Panthers fell to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in Region 6-AAAA with the loss.

Model boys 1, Ridgeland 0

The Ridgeland boys gave up a goal to Jason Ortega, who knocked in a pass on a free kick by Alex Nelson in the 67th minute.

Trion boys 3, Ridgeland 1

Christian Crumble scored on a 25-yard free kick for the Panthers, but it would not be enough as the Bulldogs claimed the victory.

Gilmer 5, Ridgeland 0

The Bobcats opened

the match by scoring four goals in the first half on Friday night as they dropped the Panthers to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in region play.

Ridgeland slipped to

1-3 overall with the loss.

Ridgeland will host LFO on Tuesday, starting at 5 p.m. The Panthers and Lady Panthers will also host LaFayette on Thursday.
